I was just at VW Liverpool service and they had a sign up 10% off batteries. The guy I was dealing with down there was Daniel.

Yes batteries should be covered by warranty, but only if they are faulty from the start and pack it in prematurely... like six weeks in. Two years on I don't know that your going to have any luck at all.

    Deka 9a48 = Federal 9agm48

Both identical case/terminal design to the original in my Golf R (Varta 5K0915105G 72Ah 380A DIN, 640A EN/SAE), ~$300 shipped, good deep cycle AGM battery type that should last longer than the original.
I was looking out for a VARTA silver series, but was in a hurry so looked for a place shipping from Sydney, thus the Yankee battery(designed for Euro cars though, hence DIN66 case).

    cheers guys
I ended up going to Denlo and getting a VARTA 5K0915105DG for $209 ( inchcape staff price )

I called a few other dealers and retail was between $301 and $322

Tech reckons it died because my sister has a habit of parking the car in the garage without locking it, apparently not locking the car causes the battery to be drained ???

Is that true? I always leave the golf unlocked in the garage and haven't had any battery issues (yet).

The car has a number of subsystems that continue to run for minutes (and in some cases hours) once you turn the car off. Locking the car puts them to sleep very quickly and reduces the at-idle load on the battery substantially. Makes a difference over time!

Lock your cars in your garages, people! Won't somebody please think of the batteries!?

Yep, probably a bit of my problem for sure, maybe about ten or fifteen times (sometimes for a couple of days) over the past 2 years I haven't locked it in my internal access garage... combined with other deep cycles it really didn't last all that long despite it's original huge size..

Got mine from batteriesdirect in Penshurst. $250 fitted. They deliver as well.

I got mine from there also, but I think the Varta was out of stock perhaps at the time. I guess it was this one, good price!: Varta Silver 577400078 (E44)
Edit: hmm, that model is not AGM? Perhaps this is why I didn't go for it, not all Silver Dynamic are created equal..

My battery died when I had 2 weeks remaining on my factory warranty and it was replaced, no questions asked.
