Great work, and thanks for the useful info Beena!

I have a new Gtech as well (the SS; same unit as the RR minus the extra logging module). Based on the results I've seen, and on its specs, I wouldn't question its accuracy at all once the clock is rolling. I suspect the biggest margin for error is in the initial detection of launch and the starting of the timer. Once the clock is running, it should be very close to spot on.

Sammy's car is the equivalent of a tuned Pirelli. (K04 turbo, GIAC tune - and they can be quite aggressive.)

Edit: My bad, Sammy has a K03 GTI. I must be on drugs.

You had an improved quarter mile time.. not cause of a change in temp, or freak situation.

You changed your engine moiunts to get a 13.6 in your GTI that is a STG 1, because last time you went they were snapped and didnt realise/hadnt changed them.

When they were snapped you ran a 13.9 or something?

So you got a 0.3 improvement - from the fixed engine mounts.

Is that right, or is your car not stg 1/something I missed.

I get it now.. sport on.. with the broken mount i was running 14.2-4.. simply couldn't get off the line...

So Sammy, yours is a Stg2 Gti yes? Assuming you have a dump pipe?

and your dad is Stg 1 Golf R?

Seems odd that you were so close off the line, I'd have thought the R would have pulled on you initially and then it been pretty close after that, with as you said the R just moving away...

Ah, sorry mate, my bad - I thought it was a K04!

13.6 from a K03 with just a tune, intake and exhaust... very decent! How can you be disappointed with that?

My GTI is what people would call a stage 2 i guess... its just a GIAC k03 tune with a custom dump pipe. it made 171kw atfw last dyno day

    I run reasonably soft tyres that i let down to 23psi, this would only be a minor assistance, i get off the line very aggressively for a manual. The golf R made its ground back with the DSG shifting seamlessly and not loosing boost pressure on gear changes, plus the K04 likes to rev more. i'll explain why;

I left the line 2.5/10th earlier than he did, we both had identical 60' times. He pulled level with me at half (1/8th mile or 200m) track with DSG against me shifting manually, he got back 3/10ths to be .5/10th infront of me and travelling 2mph faster at this stage. He held his 2.5mph speed advantage and crept away another 2/10ths in the last 200m to beat me across the line by .2 sec, about a car length.

Every time i changed gears i lost time, boost pressure and acceleration. Because the R kept the foot planted he was pulling hard the full length of the race. i could literally see he jump forward half a car length every time i shifted.

i think there is a 13.4 in it..... but what i really want is 12's out of a K04.

Sammy's GTI is Stage II (intake, exhaust, tune). So you missed that.

The last visit before i broke it saw 13.9-13.8's all night. I installed a new Volkswagen racing mount and it took 3/10th off my 60' time.
So BEFORE it was broken, 13.8 to 13.9
When I was there and it was broken, 14+
When it was fixed (Wednesday night this week) 13.6

    So you missed that too.

REXman - seriously mate, I've been trying to bite my tongue, but you're an intelligent guy, surely you realise that between a hot night and a cold night, there is going to be differences in times. I really shouldn't have to explain that. I got a 13.6 on a warm and humid night (~29) and whilst you said the time was good, you have still been stating that APR needs to change their claims. Wooduck gets a 13.3 on a much cooler night and you state "this tune must be alright.."

I'm not trying to take away from anyone's times here. I haven't met Wooduck yet, but I've met Sammy and he's a great guy. I've also got a lot of respect for GIAC's tunes. But a 0.3 second difference in a 13 to 14 second run between two nights is well and truely within the margins of error for "weather differences".

Please don't forget my GTI is a manual... thats a serious handicap on the drag strip.

Yes, the night corey and i were there it was certainly warm, however it was still mid to high 20's last wednesday.. i was only 1mph down on my best trap. I do agree with corey in that the wednesday he attended, the conditions were not condusive to making big HP or running quick times.

It is no secret that GIAC is built to be a more aggressive tune than the APR. I'm not suggesting that the APR tunes do not make power, i believe they tune with safety, economy and driveability in mind. This can affect the power made on warm nights with the amount of ignition pull and other factors.

I believe that the DRAG STRIP is one of the most credible and accurate DYNO's available. I take VBOX and GTECH data with a grain of salt, whilst reasonably accurate there are too many variables against running on a dead flat piece of tarmac with laser timing. I think if we all want to compare the size of our ****s... we should all attend WSID on the same night, or at least the upcoming dyno day.

Corey, can you give me the 60', 1/8th time and mph, and 1/4 time and mph of you 13.6 run?
