interesting results rexman. what were the actual 400m times? did you try with only one person in the car? how much do you guys weigh?

can i just say that as an outside observer with no vested interest in either vw or apr, you sound like you're having a case of sour grapes. someone claims to have gotten a better time than you, and you don't believe it because you can't match their results. "i can't do it, so therefore you can't do it either."

also implying that you can't have a "porsche for $65k" is ironic naivety at its best. if you even have half a drop of knowledge about WRXs (as your handle suggests) you would know that 0-100 in 4.3s is very easily achievable for under $65k.

your results are the limits of what you could achieve with your skills and your equipment in your environment. don't go imposing your limits on other people just for the sake of your pride.

Had a great time doing it !

And yeah FAB looking forward to you running the car. I helped you with all the info you wanted, so I ask the quarter mile is best done at the strip for no questions asked solid times.

    But then who am I!

    Hope I answered your queries.
Thanks for the info REXman, not bad figures considering the temp mate.

Having an extra body on board does make a significant difference as well as the temp.

Re the 1/4 times, of course mate

I'm about 82kgs. Other guy is probably 70-75kgs.

As for sour grapes..? What the **** are you talking about...? I haven't had it done to my car (tune/APR). My car is standard golf R.

And imposing my limits? Are you serious..? Lmao. You have one guy, stg2 with 176 at the wheels. You have another guy with stg1 with 167 at the wheels. You have a standard one with 150 at the wheels. You think you can drop a 0-100 from 5.7 to 4.6 with an extra 17 KWs on board? Go for it son.

And you think my collab of info is about jealousy or spite? You think I'm trying to hurt peoples feelings? Far from it. Im a straight up person no ****ing around. I own the car myself, an R - and would buy a tune in a sec if it delivered the offered the claims.

Fab has done everything to his car and I mean the lot - stg2+. I expect a descent time from him. Dave also said FABs car feels good too.

As for WRXs.. You'll need to burn a solid 20k on a WRX to get 4.3sec as well. If not more.

But we aren't talking about WRXs either.. It's like this idiot just saw my name and started taking about WRXs being awesome to try and make all the stuff I have presented seem wrong. when it's.. Not?

And for your info I have had 4 of them. Only the MY99 wasn't a spanker.

haha calm down, save your name calling for the people who are getting faster times than you and your friend

again, i'm saying that from where i'm sitting, i see a guy getting 0-100 in 4.73 and you're saying it's impossible to go faster than 5.24. half a second faster 0-100 is no insignificant amount, so either your friend's stg1 R is slow, or the other guy was cheating. you are obviously in belief of the latter.

i don't have to take an opinion to see that you're discounting the other guy's claims just because you haven't seen them first hand. even if he is cheating, and 4.73 is impossible in good conditions on a flat road, it does not rule out any other time faster than 5.24.

this is besides the point though. did you try with only one person in the car? if you went to the trouble of organising a suitable location for timing 0-100 runs, surely one of you would have realised it would be faster with only 1 person on board?

it really sounds like you guys all need to hit the drags together as a group. (although i can't remember if the 4.73 guy was in sydney or not - his handle escapes me for now)

Hmmm - disagree with the road perfectly straight - the entire road was a very long curve. Also, there was a merge to the right during the 0 to 100. Plus the pavement was concrete(?) and lots of sand at the shoulders - who knows how much blows across onto the pavement.

The Stage 1 car in the same temp conditions, fuller tank (by about 150km), but only 1 person in the car managed a 4.82 the night before on smooth ashpalt pavement. It was preceeded by a 4.96 in the opposite direction. The interesting thing about that was the 4.96 was on the slightly downhill and the following run was slightly up hill but was a better time. Even earlier, than those two runs, on similar pavement to the runs REXman was referring to, it did a 5.09.

The problem is that there wasn't a stock R to compare...

When is the next WSID meet? I think a bunch of us just need to go down there on the same night

And my standard R did a 5.57 in those trying difficult conditions.. So maybe my stock R is good for 0-100 in 5 flat.. 5.1 even. Going by you guys that sounds legit.

Honestly I have given up with the people who obviously don't know enough about dragging to provide good honest reliable info.

Like Robby_JAI said, that owns a fully worked S3 that does 4.7 or something thereabouts... Your not going to be faster than that with a STG 1 tune on an R. Think otherwise? Cool. You just don't know then what your talking about.

And it's not just APR or the APR tune. The performance gains just aren't realistic.. And if you can't take my advice when ive been dragging and owned modded cars for over 12 years.. Take someone who had a car entered into a motor magazine tune special.

Or take the word of the person promoting it?

ahh we didn't know it was in "trying conditions" next time, do it with 1 (one, as in not two) person in the car, in good conditions, in both directions. i think that will help your friend get his time down to the 4.89 average that corey achieved. which is only 0.16s off the 4.73 achieved by someone else.

are you turning the AC off before your run?

Robby_JAI's car did a 4.58 at the Motor Hot Tuner challenge, and you're right, no one with a Stage I tune only is going to be quicker than his car and no one has claimed to be.

I also didn't say that stock R couldn't do better than the 5.57 you did (though I thought it was 5.6x as there was 0.4 seconds between them) if it were also on a nicer surface - all I'm reporting is the numbers that the Stage 1 did using the same measuring equipment on the same tank of fuel on a smooth ashpalt private road the previous night with air temps of 0.5 to 1 degree difference.

As for the "it's not just APR" comments. You're right man. It's not just APR. If there are doubts about their numbers, then there should also be doubts about the other tuners that claim similiar or higher. Except the other guys haven't been questioning those other companies numbers because they're already using those tunes

Anyway - as I said, and as I just noticed that chylld said whilst I was typing up my previous reply, it'll probably be easier to all just go down to WSID and run there.

Edit... lol, chylld posts again whilst I'm typing!

For what it's worth I managed to get hold of a vbox last week and in my GTI Pirelli I got a 5.1 0-100. Sure having AWD will help with traction, but the power my car is making is a lot more then the Stg 2+ Golf R's and the extra weight. I am only interested in hearing about 0-100 times tested with the vbox, that is the industry standard and that is what Motor magazine use. No point using inaccurate devices because everyone will just dismiss your results.

Yeah air con is off. I was being sarcastic about " trying conditions". Other than 2 people, it was fine. Only perfect Tarmac could be better. And there was no bend Corey, we only hit the bend with about 80 meters to go in the quarter mile!! And it was slow slight bend it's no u turn! That didn't exist at all on the way back.

Corey is the person I did it with.. I like it how he doesn't question his 5.24/7 that we got and conveniently forgets/confuses himself over my 5.57. Corey ran a 5.61 in mine. I ran the 5.57 if we are being exact. I dont forget these things. And With 2 people in the car!!

Or that's what the device said.

Maybe, if It was cold, and I had one person only and the road was perfect.. I could nail a 5 flat? I mean it's only 0.5 secs with all that stuff... Right?

But Corey is right, I wanna see other tunes at the quarter before we talk smack.

But the APR tune does not back its claims of 50 KW and really should change that to reflect what I have read from Dave and felt in Coreys car.
