    DISCLAIMER: I'm not out to prove anything, upset anyone or generally make a fuss. I'm doing this all for interest! My car makes 170kW ATW as per the recent dyno day and I'm happy with that!

    So, I went out again to my 'track' this arvo (paved road on private property) with my old school RaceTechnology AP22 and my GTech in the car.

    Unfortunately the track is uphill slightly and I only got 1 run in - so the results may be a bit skewed. (I forgot to stop the logging at the end and ran out of space on the AP22... It can only record for 60sec at 0.01s intervals - I should have slowed it down!)

    Interestingly enough, the data seemed accurate compared to my (non-rollout) figures from the Gtech. The rollout is adjustable in the AP22. It was set to trigger at 0.01g and record 100 times a second. I unfortunately ran out of space before completing a qtr mile, but was happy with the result recorded anyway!
    The AP22 can output to excel - a feature currently lacking in the GTech.

    The data is there for everyone to see, but I'll explain the images:

    1. The usual speed/distance/time graph, with some data attached.

    2. A comparison to Motor's figures - what interests me is that mine is slower at the start, but equals by about 50kph and is faster from there! A bad launch maybe? More fuel/weight?

    3. Longitudinal G-Force as reported by the AP22

    4. Power (calculated obviously - using it as a relative measurement) compared to G-Force, trying to see how launch control manages the launch and how the shifts perform. I'd like to compare to a non-launch-control launch.

    5. Power (calculated with input of CdA, Rolling resistance, weight) vs time

    6. Just a sample of the raw data! We have time, lat g's, long g's, smoothed g's, speed, distance, power.

    In other news... I'm selling my 2 month old GTech! As you can see, the engineer in me loves data so I'm going to buy a VBOX which can satisfy my odd cravings.

    Good job! I wouldn't mind trying out this private track of yours

    I'm not trying to stir up anything here, but the Performance VBox that was used in Motor mag is the most accurate measurement and is the industry standard. I think it is kind of pointless comparing the two using different performance tools. It's kind of like comparing a Rolling Dyno to a Hub Dyno

    Not quite most accurate... they use a PerformanceBox - 10Hz, 1xGPS engine etc, the 100Hz VBOX 3i would be the most accurate!

    The AP22's have been extensively tested in the past to optical and drag strip timings (they are a bit old to have been tested against GPS stuff) and proven to be within 2-3% or even less with tilt/roll values set more accurately. Good accelerometers can be extremely accurate - after all, they've been guiding missiles and space shuttles for a lot longer and with more accuracy than basic GPS! It really takes RTK GPS to be much more accurate. We always found accelerometers gave better results in most cases than normal civilian GPS - but that was not a car application and we were aiming for cm accuracy. One big advantage for the AP22 is 100Hz resolution instead of just 10Hz. Of course a big disadvantage is that accelerometers can suffer if the road has gradient changes over the length. The requirement to be still at the beginning is also a pain.

    Anyway, I feel it's accurate enough for some fun analysis - no lives on the line here! I'll test it out against the VBOX when mine arrives...

    More that happy to head out for a day of VBOX logging etc at some stage if you'd like Dean - I'd love to see how that beast of yours manages to hook up!

    Yep... as Beena said. The "Performance" VBox is RaceLogic's "consumer" model. It's what they consider to be the G-Tech of their range. It's also what they consider to be as accurate as the G-Tech (After the roll-out thing is taken into consideration - RaceLogics words, not mine).

    I don't think anyone here is enthusiastic enough to spend several thousand on the full blown VBox though...

    Hey Beena,

    Good data!

    We just purchased a RaceChrono Pro Welcome to RaceChrono

    It has 10mhz setting for acceleration / deceleration & 5mhz for circuit data, but importantly it gives us good red / green display if we are up or down on sector splits. It also has the advantage of being able to be remotely mounted.

    Anyway - who wants to guess what the difference is between it & our V box mounted in the same car for the same runs?
