While the claimed figure is 6.2L/100km, I doubt your driving pattern is exactly ADR 81/02. As the expression goes, YMMV. Move on, and just enjoy your new car.

haha FC is pretty impt to me (hence the 118TSI over the GTI). i'm still in uni and it adds up to ~ $5 more a week. its almost like my car is taking my lunch money once a week lol.
According to my trip computer, my FC is at 7.7L/100km. They claimed 7.6L for the GTI so I must be doing something right

My 1.8 was averaging high 7s when new. It now averages mid-6. As i said, your engine isn't run-in yet. At these early kilometres, I'd recomend you forget about trying for economy & drive with a bit of spirit. The engine will break-in better & your economy down the track will be very much closer to where you expect it.

PS: what happened to the days when Uni students drove 20 year old Geminis that doubled in value if you put a case of beer in the boot?

A cruise to/from Sydney today, with the run TO sydney registering 7.1l/100km on the TC, 7.3l/100km on the way home, overall 7.2l/100km. Reasonable, but not that good as I was expecting much better. I've been getting 7.4 - 7.7 around Canberra regularly.

For the performance of the car it's excellent, but with every other car I've owned, I've been able to match, or better, the highway consumption on the Canberra/Sydney/return.

    Oh well.

Far out that's a lot. So how KM's are you getting on 1 tank of fuel?

Must admit, my current Cooper s is the best on fuel. Am happy the GTI is only a small increase.

He's driving a Golf R Mariani. It's got a different engine, more power and torque, AWD, and an extra ~125Kg on the GTI you have on order...

Average is now sitting at 9.6 l/100km

On the pacific highway/F3 coming back from Coffs today it averaged a rather wallet pleasing 8.1m including a damn good blast along the wootton way, north of Buhladelah.

I used up approx 3/4 tank for my recent 550kms trip to the Great Ocean Rd.

I was bloody impressed with the consumption of this pocket rocket! MFD showed 8.7L/100km.
