That'd be about $56950 otr in NSW, so without looking up what the differences are for VIC, it's still probably the best non-corporate discount I've seen on here! Congrats![]()

Well, we know for the fact that the reduction in import duties of 5% (if passed on) is only equiv to about 3% to the purchase price of the car. Thus you could approximate (since 5% and 3% are not really that precise) that the cost is 60% car from factory, 40% vw australia/dealer/retail/in country taxes. There are so many costs which VW Australia and the dealers have to pay out of that 40% that it's hard to know exactly how much margin they end up with, but yeah![]()
the reduction will be passed on to the buyer?
i think no news about that from VW australia yet.
although MAZDA and HONDA have decided to pass that.
no... there is no news, I was just saying that since a 5% reduction on price that an Australian car company buys their cars from the manufacturing plant equals about 3% that you could say that the cost of a car typically only makes 60% of the sale price. But as I was saying, there are a lot of different factors, those numbers are very in precise, and every manufacturer and car model will obviously vary.
Hi all,
Thanks for the valuable information here in the forum.
I'm interested in buying a 118TSI and got a quote from a NSW dealer last weekend.
I think it's dearer after reading most of the posts here.
Quote is $43,139 driveaway with discount for
Metallic paint
MDI
RCD510 premium audio
Sport pack leather with ACC
Textile mat
Might add
slimline weather shields
mudflaps
towbar
sat nav
Anyone out there with the similar spec and mind I ask how much you have paid?
Thanks and much appreciate your input.

I have to agree with Mattyf, I have an almost 2 week old GTI with MDI and Reverse park sensors and got it for $43,900 on the road, so for the extra $800 you can get a GTI, for the 118 I'd be looking at a bit more of a discount even with ACC (which I'm not sure you need) or get them to throw in the satnav and other stuff for free, then you'll have a good deal.
According to the cost spreadsheet off here that spec should retail in NSW for $43,905 plus the RCD510 and the textile mat so I guess you're seeing a couple of $K off the retail, but not much.
The GTI wouldn't have leather for that price. Nor the Dynaudio. That immediately adds $4800. Add the ACC and you're up to $6400. So if he don't have the additional $6400 to spend, then I can understand sticking with the 118TSI. There is more to a car than just performance, and maybe cancerstar values the comfort and luxury of nice leather, good sound, and adjustable spring rates?!![]()
