This is going to have a strong stench of bias attached to it given the fact i am in sales but you statement about it being ultimately our choice is a little misguided. All dealers have to commit to a factory target (irrespective of brand). If the target is not met then the business, especially in high volume times that are hard to make GP (such as now) becomes unviable. It really is a catch 22 for them and dealers are selling cars close to cost whether you choose to believe that or not.
But when it all boils down to it if we get to a point where we have to fold we were never viable anyway. Besides with it as aggressive as it is in all brands at the moment you couldn't pay to much even if you wanted to.
You are right though, it is a big purchase and no-one expects you to pay more than you have to and you should do your homework but it would be nice for people to show loyalty to those sales people that treat them well.
Just ordered a 90TSI 7-DSG in united grey for my first car
Including metallic paint, comfort package, floor mats, tinted windows, full tank of petrol
with corporate discount
was told it would come to ~36,541
> Driveaway 32,000
We're not the best negotiators but hopefully this was a good deal?
Hi Skoda dealer,
I do appreciate how difficult your job must be but I was really narked at the attitude of a previous poster who was bagging the spreadsheet. No-one is going to print it out and go down to their dealer with the thought that they are not going to sign up for a car if they don't get 17% off. It is useful guide. No more, no less.
For the record, I *only* got 9.2% discount but am extremely happy that I got that much, as I am with the car. Also, it is the 3rd new vehicle (albeit different brands) that I have purchased from the same dealership. Even though the 4 month wait for the car was a pain, my sales lady has been absolutely brilliant; it is the best time I've had buying a car. And we really have become quite good friends too.

Ok, this is going to sound incredibly noobish, but what is a corporate discount when buying a new car?
I am completely over dealerships and their associates posting on this Forum saying how hard it is to make a living and how they are 'doing it tough'. I know for a fact that should the buyer be 'doing it tough' they could not care less. In fact dealerships they are completely willing to screw as much money out of people for any trivial reason they can muster.
The Chylld effort has been a great help to new car buyers but because you guys can no longer screw us over with impunity. If you have a competitive product you will survive but if you have relied on duping unsuspecting buyers don't complain because the playing field is now becoming level.
If you give such great deals why don't you want us to know about them?
It's a shame you feel so strongly about this as you do PassatB6 because it invariably means you have had one or more shocking experiences at a dealership level. I think you misunderstood my posting or maybe i didn't make it as clear as i intended but i am not whinging about anything. I love my job and i love the interaction with people from all walks of life that it brings, if i didn't i wouldn't do it right?!!
I am not looking for sympathy or for you to make the purchase in anyway other than one that is comfortable for you. If this forum give you the information you need to feel comfortable in the purchase then we are all the better for it.

Sales @ Mentone Skoda, I do think you are really missing the point of what was said. If car sales people didn't come across as largely pushy and dishonest AND the price was the same for everyone sales people would be treated with more respect. Have a look at the variation on prices here and you should see why people get p1ssed of with car sales people.
Instead, you try and sell it as close to retail as possible and people try to buy it as cheap as possible. Throw in dealer competition, corporate pricing, overpriced extras by the manufacturer and hey presto, its suddenly a bun fight for you to win the business b4 the people walk out the door to see if they can get a better price elsewhere!
This is nothing about what you earn, its about how people are treated and the experience they occur at the dealership.
