I'm new too. just bought a 118tsi, base hose out model (No options at all and I like manual gears) $29750 drive away does this seem ok??

Was looking at 90TSI base no options, metallic paint and walked away from $26k on the weekend.
We were after $25k flat.
Would have been third vehicle from that dealership. The way I see it, what they profit from continued servicing from 3 vehicles over the life of the car (I intend to keep my for like forever) will far outweigh the $1k additional discount we are asking for.
Makes sense to me that keeping a loyal customer costs you less than trying to get a new one. Otherwise if we do find a deal better elsewhere I may also take my servicing to them as well.

So your aiming for about 17% off. It might be do-able, although the less options the less room to move I suspect. I reckon you are going about it the wrong way sticking with your preferred dealership. I got a bit over 15% off, for a car that was delivered within 7 days.
You know the price you want to pay.
You have chosen the dealership to service it, but there is no need to buy it from them.
Just ring a few nearby dealers. Tell them what you want and see if they can deliver it within your time frame. Advise them that you will come in and sign on the spot if they meet YOUR price and delivery schedule. No argy bargy just tell them you know what others are paying and if they want the the sale today THEY will need to meet YOUR Price. Ball is the in their court and if they cannot come to the party you can try again in a few days. Worked a treat for me. I reckon a got one of the best prices around for a car delivered straight away. Oh and another thing, you would expect greater discounts if you were happy to wait several months. Might even be able to recommend some dealers if you had a location other than Earth.

I picked up my new 118TSi DSG (Metallic Paint) with Tint and Floormats for $35,000 on the road...
I thought I'd managed to get a decent deal...

The point with going back to the dealership I purchased mine and another car from was to try to leverage off the repeat customer policy (i.e. Already happy with buying my car there, servicing etc and keeping my custom is cheaper than getting a new customer). I am quite loyal if people look after me (maybe they can't do $25k) and therefore I will look at other dealerships to see if this is possible and to confirm. Not sure how things work if quoting $26k was a "red" deal (as in losing $300). If this is the case I would be pretty worried where my next paycheck from VW was coming from if that was the profit from a car.
They would not budge on $26k flat, therefore if I do find someone else that does offer a price below that, I will also be taking my car away from the dealership and service it there (all things being equal).
Conclusion is that the dealership selling me the car at the price I want will get the profits over the long run of 2 cars being serviced there and I can tell you that my R32 has not done many k's and I am keeping it long term. Now you can't argue that they don't make a killing out of profits from servicing now can you?

I think you have missed $700 for the metallic paint. My copy of the spreadsheet shows around $30,151.70 IF you include metallic paint, hence the 17%. But without the paint I agree with your calcs.
No arguments here, I agree - Put the argument to your dealer - you might get lucky.
Golf Mark 6, you were probably somewhat disadvantaged by a lack of dealers over there. We are a bit spoilt for choice over this side and as a result can play them off.

Taking into account the servicing, you'd have to get Dealer Principal approval for that sort of deal.
Most car dealerships I know, treat New Car Sales, Used Car Sales, Spare Parts, & Service Depts as individual profit centres.
Therefore the new car sales dept. doesn't care whether or not you get your car serviced at their dealership or not.
However, the Dealer Principal is responsible for the overall profitability of the Dealership, & would therefore be able to take into account your intention to service the car there.
Of course they can't force you to get your car serviced at their dealership........

Good to know that the dealer principal is the guy to speak to. Seems the salesperson I was speaking to thought that swirl marks (deep ones) on a brand new car were standard fare (probably charge extra for them as well).
Would like to see if that swings the vote.
