As long as you are aware of potentially poor resale value when you make your buying decision, you might as well spec your car the way you want it, not based on how an Actuary will view it on the 2nd hand market.

    Well said!

as anyone can probably tell from my spreadsheet thread, I love making spreadsheets even just for trivial little things. but it took me quite a while to realise that all the maths and savings in the world won't compensate for having missed out on the enjoyment of something you love. within reasonable limits, you have to treat yourself

yet, it's these very people who complain the loudest about the resale figure when they go to sell it ... much like luixury home buyers, boat owners etc

    OK, it's official!
I'll have to agree to disagree with pologti18t

And when it comes time to change cars next, I promise I'll ask permission first, when ticking the options box.

Hope he let's me have the colour I want.......

As the topic has obviously drifted, let me close by saying " I bought it, I paid for it, I know how much it costs, I know lesser systems are cheaper, I can afford it, & I'm very happy with it, and..... as it stands right now, I'd do exactly the same thing again".

People who are too concerned about resale buy white corollas anyway.
    That's how you can tell.....

Umm... this question doesn't pertain to just the Golf VI, but I think this is the best place for it.

What is the "corporate discount" nowadays?

I've visited a dealer today that was insistent that it amounted to around $3,500 off the RRP of the car, but I had been under the impression that it was 10% off the RRP with dealer delivery limited to $990.

I know from this thread that people have been negotiating good deals even without the corporate discount, but it would be nice to know what the dealer is probably going to get back from VW Australia while negotiating.

    Cheers

I cant say exactly how much it is, but from the deals the members on this forum have been getting, the corporate discount amounts to a 1% discount, ie ~$300-400.

    congrats!

possibly your dealer was being a bit 'creative' with the dealer delivery charge since your quoted rrp is 1k higher than my calculated rrp. still, 7.8% discount isn't too shabby!

    added to spreadsheet.

Every option on a V10 amounts to Diff Lock, Rear Alloy Wheel and Metallic Paint. Even without these options the resale is still a killer - yet I never learn...
First a Seat Ibiza Cupra Sport. Paid $33500, traded for $4k in 6 years
Then an Audi A3 3.2 DSG (R32 clone) paid $64500 as demo, offered $32k for trade by the same dealer 2 years later.

Now looking for a vanilla GTI V 2nd hand - surely that can't hurt too bad!

The V GTI's been enjoying strong resale values, about the only thing that can hurt it is the VI GTI

I'm looking for one too maybe... but that discussion's for another thread

    G'day folks,

    Spent half a day negotiating.
    RRP $52380

    Golf 103TDI 6 speed DSG

    Options:
    Metallic Paint
    Electronic Sunroof
Leather Sports Package with Adaptive Chassis Control
RNS510 Satellite Navigation System with Dynaudio
    Reverse Camera

    Drive Away Price: $46230 (-11.74%)

Trade-in: $23000 only expected $21000 maximum for a 5 years old Mazda RX8 but negotiated the price to 23K

So, to make me feel better I might say the Drive Away price of $44230 (-15.56%)

I always try to negotiate between -10% to -13% from the RRP.

    Regards
