Hey all, I've decided not to lease the car now but to go finance instead.

So I'm looking at the following

    Golf 118tsi - $30,490
    Sports pack - $2000
    Sunroof - $1900
Pearl black thingy colour - $700
    Leather Trim - $3300
    RNS 510 + Dynaudio - $4000

Total Comes to $42,390, plus around 4k on road brings me too around the 46k mark.

Now going on the 10% that everyone has been saying will bring to around teh $42k mar, do you think this would be a fair price, or do you think with all the overpriced options I'm piling on I could possibly talk them down even further....

This is the first new car I have ever brought and don't really feel like being laughed of the showroom floor when I throw a figure at them.

    Thanks for ur help.....

    Hi Stoney,

For your options, you can try to ask between $38-$40 drive away. $42 seem too much for me...

You'll be doing exceptionally well if you get it for 38 to 40...

Your call too, but I'd question the value of adding 40% worth of options... from a resale point of view you'd be far better off with a higher spec'ed model to start with, with less extras...

Rufus have you tried going through a broker?

I got a couple of brokers to see what they could do for me, then rang around a few dealers to see what they could do for me.

In the end, the broker with the best price got the business, but the customer service has been non existent.

I was supposed to take delivery today, but hadn't even been invoiced!

I agree, options do nothing for resale value. $12k in fancy bits is a lot of money for very little return on resale. That is GTI Mk5 Pirelli money.....

Signed on the line today, very happy.

Hopefully Chatswood can get it for me, there's only one in the country apparently:
    118 TSI Manual
    - Candy White
    - Sports Pack

    $33,000 driveaway.

    Very happy.

wtf? You might as well just wait for the new GTI then... probably ends up being the same price with all those options included.

In my experience you never get the value in resale when adding adding options to base models, and are better off going for a model further up the tree that already has those options fitted as standard. In your case, for the money you are talking I would go for the current GTI which is part of VWA's sale promotion removing drive away costs.
