Hi there,
As a new member I am still finding my way around the site looking for help with installing a reverse camera in my 2012 mK6 Golf. I like doing stuff to my car as an interest and it keep me busy during my retirement years.

There's a few ways to do it, badge flips and camera pops out or you can retrofit one to the number plate but to be honest I wouldn't bother too much work
hi,
is there a guide to installing the flip camera? I bought one but have only a small idea how to install it. i.e. i'll end up f@cking it up.
thanks in advance
I installed the flip camera into my Mk6 Cabriolet... twice (after moving to a new head unit which needed a composite feed). This means I've installed both OEM and aftermarket and they were both drop in parts that pretty much just worked.
It's not that bad of an install, either way you still have to route the wires, the hard part is getting it through that rubber gromet into the hatch space. The badge itself is only a couple of screws.
What camera did you buy? (and what head unit do you have?)

The million-dollar question is what type of camera input it takes, the OEM RND510 uses an RGB connector, most (all?) after market units use a CVBS connector (the yellow plug).
I tried a few different adaptors to go from RGB to CVBS and they all sucked and didn't work reliably, in the end I just bought an after market badge flip camera with the CVBS plug which just works. (It is crappier than the OEM camera, but it gets the jobs done all the time).
My strong recommendation is to lay out the wiring and test it before you hide it all away (as in just drape it across the seats and plug it into the headunit without installing it all properly. You want to know it all actually works before you go to the trouble of installing it all.
