Any chance you left your boot slightly ajar? Open boot is fairly subtle on the MFD door warning and could be missed, thereby keeping the display up. On the other hand you would get a WRNG chime I suppose.
Does your MFD display the vehicle status as a page in the MFD permanently? The car outline with the door opening etc. Mine only did it at start up and then it disappeared. However after running some logs with the VCDS it stayed open on the MFD for a full day of running around. Now it has returned to its normal function of just showing open doors getting in and out of car.
I didn't change any settings, just did some logging of data with the VCDS. There weren't any errors either showing up as I have seen it show bulbs out on a Touareg. Wondering why it decided to do this straight after using the VCDS.

That would be it and there are no warning chimes for the hatch being open and the locks etc still operate as per normal. Some of the Mark 5's and obviously the 6 as well require a harder close as they look closed but either they're sitting out a tiny bit or the sensor is misaligned/faulty. I'm pretty sure the sensor is in the lock on the bottom of the hatch.
I don't know if the lock itself is faulty or just misaligned so raise it with the dealer who will most likely just swap the lock assembly.

It happened to me too.
Diagram of the car permanently displayed.
It was the rear hatch slightly ajar. Couldn't tell when it was being driven.
Also meant the rear camera wasn't working, so it was headed for the dealership, when I discovered the problem.
Glad I found it first; I'd hate to be explaining things to the Service Dept; only to find I hadn't shut the hatch properly.![]()

The rear wiper will also not operate which is another sign.
You can code the car so the rear wiper operates when the hatch is open but default is no.
There is also coding for operation of fog and reverse lights when the hatch is open but the default is yes.

Thanks all that could explain it. Must have been ajar for the whole day.
