The dealer gains nothing by holding up the car and are definitely doing the right thing as Maverick explained.
A mate of my son bought a new Tiguan which he waited months for. The day he picked it up he drove it to my son's place to show it off and as he neared the house a bunch of lights came on and it went into a limp mode. Once parked it wouldn't start. He then had to watch his brand new car being loaded onto a tow truck and carted away. He then went through all kinds of emotions over the car wondering what kind of damage had been done and whether it would cause engine problems in the future etc etc.
So, it could be a positive thing in the long run that delivery was held up.
