Was meant to pickup my GTI today but car didn't pass diagnostics????

Okay so i was told that id be taking delivery of my new GTI today and as you could imagine i was pumped as a mofo. Anyway half way through the day my dealer called me with some bad news which was..... that they were unable to deliver the car due to some computer or something not being able to 'pass' the car safe????

I don't really understand the whole reason why they couldn't give me the car today as they called me when i was busy at work. BUT...what i did catch is that because it's such a new car they need to do some tests with a 'vass machine' or something? ....Is this some type of software diagnostics test ???

Has anyone ever heard of this so called 'vass' machine? And if so can anyone explain it in a little more detail?

I have no idea so I'm reaching out to the genius's that are the VW watercooled community

    Thanks in advance

    There are two options here

    A) The pre delivery guy whilst putting your car through it's paces in the car park drifted into another car and they're quickly repairing your car or
    B) As part of the pre delivery they scan the car for faults (the car is put into a sleep mode when it comes out from Germany and it woken when it gets to the dealer) and they found a problem with a module not responding or throwing errors so they will look into and replace the module if required before you take the car.

Look at it this way, how would you like it to take delivery of the car and for a fault to develop that leaves you stuck in the middle of peak hour traffic or for it to turn out that the main harness is incorrect and that as you've taken delivery VWA has decided that the dealer instead of replacing the car for you can instead fit the $5000 harness which involves pulling the car to pieces and hundreds of connectors to be plugged and unplugged which will take days?

Better to wait and let them sort it out properly.

The VAS 5051 is the diagnostics computer they use to "talk" to the car. There's also versions like the VAS 5052 (portable) and VAS 5053 but VAS 5051 is the mose common and it rolls around on a stand with wheels.

Thanks for the reply Maverick. Thought i was going to have to bump on that one!

That all makes sense, i just wanted to make sure they weren't talking rubbish.

They've said that the car should (and i use that term VERY lightly) be ready today...... We'll soon find out anyway.

    Thanks again

Hope it's ready for you today.

I kinda know what you are going through.
I was expecting pick-up on Thursday but have just been advised customs are holding the car and VW don't know when they will get it so I have no expected delivery date now.

Thats crap, why they could not have done this ahead of time (or they did and no one did anything about it) is beyond me...

Just shows the lazy attitude of VW recently, they have a good product so don't have to make an effort...

Agreed but i also lay blame on the dealers setting unrealistic expectations.

The dealer was probably rushing to get the car out on time so the customer would have it on the weekend and picked it up as part of the predelivery the day before he was to pick up the car. Would you rather they added a week to the cars delivery times to allow for problems like this? Perhaps they should add three weeks to ensure that no-one is ever disappointed that their car was delayed by a few days?

Of course the forums would be full of people whining that their car has arrived but the dealer want's to ensure it's fine before they organise a collection date. The car was delayed by a weekend, hardly the end of the world and better the car is delivered without any faults.

Could be worse. A friend of mine bought a Holden Cruze (no, I had no input into the decision, I was pushing for a Jetta) and when he arrived at the dealership he was told Holden had a delivery freeze in place (which then developed into a recall). The freeze was not that sudden and he could have easily been called prior to arrival.

Yeah - I think a big part of the problem is this forum and the internet as a whole

It used to be that people ordered a car, they'd then get a phone call when it was in. They didn't know anything which happened in the background. Now you've got people who have the full process mapped out, they know what day their car started being built and finsihed, then they're tracking it on the boat, and know when it's in and out of customs.

So in other words, I blame all of you!
All this extra knowledge isn't necessarily a good thing

You have no evidence to justify the response you have written. The problem could be anyware as maverick has suggested. They had the courtesy and grace to advise the customer of the problem. Sure he's disapointed but thats life!
