My ipod cable was thrown in for free. From the comment made by the dealer, it sounded like they just order the cable as well when the MDI is optioned.

no you were right the first time, its a load crap. Everything else in the world has a standard USB interface, then you could use your existing cables that come with your device.
Its only companies like Sony that decide to go against the norm so that they can charge to $90 for a cable that costs you about $2 with free postage on ebay.....
Sorry if this had already been answered but its an effort to read through 42 pages and i cant really be bothered.
So anyway what i wanted to know is...can you get a longe ipod cable for the mdi unit that is installed in the centre console?
Thanks
The Dealer threw in the Ipod cable for Free when i was picking the car up
Just ask nicely :)
I am always nice....
Yeah - I was given both the USB and the iPhone cable... just depends on the dealer and the customer.
In Australia, by default, it comes with the USB cable as a factory option. If you have the dealer fitted MDI, it comes with neither. However, I know that several dealers are happy to take back the USB cable (unopened) and swap for an iPhone cable, but it's purely up to the dealers.
So yeah, being nice always helps :)
So all of the people that either bought or received a free iPod cable - do you get the odd skip at the beginning of songs? Anyone found a way to fix it?
I've just downloaded the latest MDI software and might try and load this to see if it helps.
first mod!! lol
my dealer gave me both also, but with the ipod cable it was throwing back an error when plugged into my iphone 4, and it wasn't a convenient spot for a phone ( I would most likely forget it in the car )
8gb USB stick, formated to fat32 - copied some test music across, all works fine - and because its a USB stick it fits down that 'abyss' and I will never see it again.. until I want to put some new music on anyway ;)

Im sure everyone knows about it, but sometimes its not worth the hassle of stuffing around with the phone when you can just dump all the files on a USB and off you go
