Mine occasionally does that with an iPod, but never with a standard USB flash drive. I have the RNS-510.

I get the same problem, unless I hit the on screen "Selection" button and select skip to the next song by selecting it on screen.

Also I have playlists and sometimes I like to shuffle my songs. The stereo in the car either selects mix folder or it plays something completely different. And the only way to get it to comply is to hit shuffle in a playlist and then hook it up, but if I press back to hear a song again it ends up re shuffling everything
This is a fault with the particular hardware and software version of the ipod, Volkswagen have a workaround which is an upgraded firmware for the MDI which fixes this in some cases but otherwise an upgrade of the ipod _may_ help.

The update is on my website.

Some reason it's working now but skips at the start of the song as it changes the name if I let it play through. I will try the update. Thanks.

New Golf Wagon..question about the MDI and AUX in.

    Hey guys,

My dad has just purchased a new golf wagon.

    90 TSI
    White
    DSG
    Comfort Pack
    Cruise Control
    MDI
    Floor Mats

I will be driving it until I get my new car (most likely Polo GTI)

Just wondering if there is anything I should know in terms of the MDI?

Are there any special cables? Any special cables needed for the AUX In?

    Thanks all.

AFAIK If you want to hook an Apple Device to it you will need the VW supplied cable as the White Apple cable doesn't work when popped into the MDI USB. Thats all I can offer advice wise mate, my car hasn't arrived yet..

The MDI is supplied with an MDI<->USB cable as standard in Australia. This is fine for connecting to generic USB-interface devices (eg flash drives).

If you want to connect an Apple iPod or iPhone, you will need the dedicated MDI<->iPod cable, which is available from your VW dealer (for about $90 retail) - the USB cable will not work for that application, even if you daisy-chain it to your iPod.

ontop of this, there's a 3.5mm Aux In jack, so you can connect any audio device
although this is the least preferred method as the quality isn't as good as USB or Ipod interface.

I believe the volume can be adjusted by the device as well at the headunit.
(if you have the device set really high, the sound may be distorted even if the headunit volume is very low)

haha. Well he knows how long I have been waiting for a new car, plus the fact he still has his current car, it made it easier.

It should only be a couple of months until I get my car (if VWA would hurry up and release the Polo GTI pricing).
