Playback is less error prone on a USB thumbdrive.
The only problem I've had so far is when I start the car again, the current tracks info isn't displayed, it just says 'no info'. It fixes itself with the next track.

Hey guys,
How do you know if your MDI is a factory fitted or dealer fitted?
Mine is situated in the arm rest of my 2010 GTI.
My issue is that the playback quality is bad!, if I connect the same ipod via the AUX cable it sounds perfect but when playing via the MDI it sounds like its cracking and fuzzy.
Anyone have the same problem?
Any suggestions on how to mend this?
If it's in the arm rest then it's factory fitted.
As Maverick said in the other thread that you asked this question, the first thing would be to try another ipod/iphone. The output paths of the ipod are different via each method, so the fault could be in the device. Then if there is still an issue, put the car into the dealership to get them to check it out.
Ripblade, there's a section in Setup that deals with Voltages. I can't remember exactly where but there are 3 options. Try going thru each one and you'll notice a huge improvement.
The only problem as far as I can tell is the overall volume will be reduced.
Aah - this would make sense. The crackling could be occuring because you're exceeding the clipping level of the signal - which means you're exceeding maximum output volume (this doesn't have to occur with the speaker volume up loud).
So the 'reduced volume' isn't a problem as such. All you're doing is setting the system to the CORRECT output volume of the ipod. Then you just turn the car stereo up louder to compensate
Havent got those problems with my ipod connection, the problem I have had is NOW when the MDI has a ipod connected it doesn't detect is and says "no medium" same thing with the USB.
Its been like that for a month or so, I've flagged it but decided I'll get it sorted when I get my drivers side mirror repaired.
Did you read the manual ?
Hi xblode,
I will look in the manual for these settings and give it a try.
Just for clarification on the problem, when I plug the ipod in via the Aux port and have the ipod set on full volume the distortion i hear is the similar as the distortion I get when the I plug the ipod via Mdi. If I turn down the volume on the ipod when plug via AUX and then pump up the volume on the car it sounds perfect but I cannot access the ipod volume controls when its plugged in via MDI.
So based on what you said there should be an option somewhere in the headunits setup to make these changes for the MDI option, I will power thru the manual and let you know if it works!
Thank you!!
