Location of Immobiliser module???

Hi all,

My daughter has just purchased a 2012 MK6 Golf 77TSI.
When it rains the car will not register either of her keys. Car starts after displaying "key not detected", runs for 5 seconds then cuts out. This only happens when it rains fairly heavily and for a day or two after.
We have put it down to water, moisture etc getting into the immobiliser module when it rains.

Problem is, I have no idea where the immobiliser module is to try and protect it from moisture.
Does anyone know the location of the actual module so I can see if it is getting wet / damp?!

Any help is much appreciated.

The immobilizer is in the cluster. Key not found would tend to indicate that the key reader coil circuit is the issue. This is just behind the key barrel, and has 2 wires that then connect to the cluster.
The problem could be that the cluster board has some corrosion on it perhaps in the vacinity of the coil reader components.

Thank VERY much for the info.
I cant see any parts around the column or cluster getting wet or damp when it rains, but at least I know where to start looking now.
I will pull the column apart and check for any corrosion and maybe even take out the cluster and give it a clean and check it as well.

Your windscreen may be leaking when it rains and allowing water/moisture to get in around the instrument cluster area? Would be more common if the windscreen has been replaced and a non-genuine windscreen has been used. I had a new windscreen fitted to my Mk6 Golf by O'Briens Glass and it was terrible, not only did it leak but you could see a wave effect in the glass and the windscreen wipers would skip on the glass because it was not a flat surface. I took it back and they agreed the glass was out of spec and replaced it. If the windscreen does not have a VW logo on the bottom corner then it is aftermarket and has been replaced at some point in the cars life.

Another thought is to lift up the plastic cowl around the windscreen wipers and check how much leaves/dirt/debris etc is in there, because if there is lots of debris in there it would be blocking the drains and when it rains that area will be filling up with water and potentially finding a way into the cabin.

Does the interior of the car smell damp/musty? Also check if your carpet (under the floormats) is damp.

There is a little bit of "fog" on the inside of the front screen when it rains, so moisture is getting in somewhere.
The carpets are not damp.
We have had the wiper cowl off and it is relatively dry in there from memory. I will check with the kids as they pulled it off.
The screen LOOKS factory, although does not have a "VW" logo on it.
Perhaps it IS around the screen as it does fog up a bit. Needs a bit more investigating me thinks!

So you might have some luck if you have the windscreen removed and re-fitted with new adhesive/sealant.
