Is it easy to upgrade your Central Electronics to the latest version? Or quite complex?

I cant justify the cost of these when i got a great result from some 5050 smd LED bulbs with no error msg

I have something interesting regarding this.
I tried to order these original VW items from ECS tuning but they demanded that I needed to give them my drivers license No. and registration no. for coding before they would sell it. They never asked for the VIN.
My question was how is my drivers lic. and rego relevant since its not coded into the car in any way. Anyhow, they were adamant so I cancelled my order. Can anyone explain to me why this was needed?

Scam? You give them your drivers license & rego, next thing you owe some electronics store in Russia $50,000? I've had it where the seller needs a land line number (to verify who you are) before they'll send the goods. But I can't imagine what a licence number and rego has to do with it (what if you were buying them for someone else? These dots...they don't connect.
So has anybody had real world experiene with the R-Dash ones on ebay?

Are they truely error free? The "3 day return policy" has me a bit meh.

The dots do connect, Hong Kong is an area known for scammers and ECS are taking precautions with accepting credit card payments from places they have either had direct experience with being ripped off from or have heard about that place being used.
A landline phone number means nothing when it comes to verification, the safest method for the vendor is a scan of the credit card and/or rates-utility notice and/or drivers license.

I have the R-Dash ones listed above from ebay.
These are "error free" when connected. Just make sure you push the connectors together very well. I am running these on my 2010 Golf R. They are very bright but i dont mind them. They actually help with me utilising the RVC as they provide additional light when reversing at night. Easy install too.

I can confirm that this is a legitimate request.
Whilst some other people here have lost the plot in their replies Maverick is spot on. Even some companies in Australia will require a photocopy of your drivers license etc. It's to ensure you aren't using a stolen CC number etc (though, you could have stolen an entire identity I guess...)
Even in Australia some companies will requre this with credit card purchases over a certain value.
You just have to ensure that the company you're dealing with is legitimate. ECS Tuning is a decent sized company that's been around for ages, so that's fine. But if an eBay seller or some random internet site asked you for this, then think twice!
