Just Fitted GTI Steering Wheel to base Golf - Problems

    H1,
Fitted a brand new GTI wheel to my MY12 Mk6 Golf that had a basic plastic wheel.

The Airbags were identical - but I used the new one, but could have used either.

The problem I now have is that Horn does not work and 5 of the dash lights stay on.

Anyone else had this problem ?

    thanks

No problems with my install but my golf is a comfortline. You sure the airbags are identical? Do the multifunction buttons work?

    Update,

Went for a drive and turned the wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right. All warning lights now gone off.

Only left with the Horn not working now.
Is the horn part of the Airbag module ? If so, I could swap back to the old Airbag as it did fit.

As it is a 77TSI - I would have to change control module to get the buttons to work - so I didin't bother with that.
    thanks

It could be the module. My original airbag was completely different to the GTI airbag.

lol I don't think I've even tried to use my horn since (I did think I should test it after retrofitting but never had an appropriate opportunity). That said, last week I had over 5 people come close to side-swiping me due to not looking when changing lanes, but between avoiding a collision and downshifting I never got around to using the horn (plus I don't like the sound of the Golf's horn).
I'll try and test it later on.

Also keep in mind that the horn doesn't work w/o ignition, in case that's how you were testing. As far as the control module goes, didn't that come with your new wheel?

No, the control module is the SWCM which is a separate part.

Will try turning the ignition on for the Horn, assumed it would work without, every other car I had it did.

This oversight was discussed (argued) extensively here about a year ago when one member was sitting in his car and watching someone about to reverse into it, but the horn wouldn't work.

    Nice pick up Ryan_R.

The SWCM on the new models is actually part of the slip ring which forms the base of the control stalks. I retrofit a MFSW onto my 77TSI and had to upgrade the SWCM as part of the process (which also enabled me to install a cruise control stalk). Then Vag Com the wheel to get the buttons, lights, horn to work. All in all probably the best upgrade to my 77.
