Booked my car in for the end of August (when a loan car is available), going to see if I can get a clutch pack as well since I've very recently been getting some shudders again at slow takeoffs and today when in 4th doing 40kph.

Apparently this mob reckon it'll cost VW Germany a good $170 million to fully complete the recall:

They've got plenty of cash to roll around in - both figuratively and literally!

Having said that, AUD 170 million buys you a lot of or or so if I were an executive, board member, or a shareholder, I wouldn't want to see that cash being spent on product recalls and the like, if it can be at all avoided.

Probably the faulty DSGs were assembled at the DSG factory after the employees consumed a lot of or or

It's also quite possible that VW insures for warranty issues to provide a known cost - maybe one of those executives forgot to insure for AUS which is why they were so reluctant to fix the gremlins?

I just had a new mechatronics put into the Golf GTI, which I had begun to hate driving (only did 4000ks last 12 months), and it has completely transformed it. It's a pleasure to drive again and I've been jumping in it and just driving around for the hell of it

My Polo GTI 6R is on the list for the Mechatronics replacement - not sure if it misbehaves as I can't get her ladyship out of it long enough to drive it. When it goes in I'll get them to fix a couple of other things which it's doing - tpi2009810_22 rattling noises from engine 2-3 secs after cold start and tpi2012623_21 Brief_high-frequency sqeaking from engine_Supercharger clutch squeak.

It's had something replaced for the excessive oil consumption about 3 months ago.

My mechatronics unit was replaced only a couple of weeks before this recall drama happened. Now I have received the recall letter from VW Australia. Do you think that they'll replace the unit again as a precautionary measure?

The recall notice is online at the Product Safety Recalls website. The recall describes the fault being rectified as:



The recall is related to the DQ200 7-speed dry-clutch DSG gearbox, installed in some VW Polo, Golf (hatch, wagon, cabriolet), Jetta, Passat, and Caddy (and Skoda, and Audi) vehicles. In the Mk6, it is fitted to:

• 77TSI
• 90TSI
• 118TSI
• 77TDI
• Cabriolet

The recall only affects cars manufactured between June 2008 and September 2011. Cars manufactured after that time are not affected by the fault covered by the recall, and are ineligible for replacement under the recall.

The recall involves replacing the Mechatronic unit, at no cost. The part will be replaced regardless of whether symptoms are exhibited or not - as a precautionary safety measure.

VW will be contacting owners between now and July, to arrange a time to bring your car in to have the work performed. If you do not hear from VGA by then, contact your local dealer to book your car in to have the work carried out.

(VW is offering complimentary (free) vehicle checkups of any VW for the time being, should you have any concerns about your car. This is not limited to cars affected by the recall. If you would like to have anything on your car checked, contact your local dealer and book a time for the free inspection.)

I called VW wangara to find out why I hadn't heard anything after my first letter and they called back and said there was a priority list, especially for cars that had had the clutch pack done - no idea why I wasn't seen as priority seeing I had had that done and also had loss communication between the dsg and ecu (could be writing this wrong, don't have the fault report in front of me) multiple times...
Anyway, should all be done next week
Hopefully it will also fix the intermittent shudder that is back also!!
Oddly I still love my car completely.

Hi All, looking at buying a second hand 6th Gen Golf but very concerned about the DSG recall. Just wondering as a buyer from private seller or a dealer, do I have a right to know if the DSG has been recalled or replaced or more importantly not replaced under the recall?

Should I simply be able to see in the service log book some evidence the DSG mechatronics was replaced under the recall? Is there another way to find out before making a purchase?

Should I be generally wary of the second hand Golf market of 6th gens or no problem now given the free replacement parts under the recall?

Evidence of the DSG recall would be a service sheet, similar to in invoice (with a total of $0 at the end if no other work was done).

Also check the A pillar inside the drivers door (door must be open) and you'll see some sticker-type recall codes.

Hi!

Anyone experiencing shudder issues after the recall being conducted?

I barely experienced the issue prior to the recall and since it's been done have experienced it more so. Today was the most noticeable three times feeling like it was going to stall within a 10 min period!
