    Issues with RN510

    Hi All,

Well the first issue has shown its ugly head and its an odd one. It relates to my RNS510. Basically it's happened for the third time today and while i've narrowed down the basic circumstance which brings about the issue, I cant determine the actual fault. It's been driving me nuts all day today and I really want to work it out.

The last 3 times i've gone away for a short trip (up the F3 basically), within an hour of driving the RNS510 will crash and reset itself. It will turn back on but do it again within 2 minutes. And it will continue over and over - until you drop below 90km/h as I discovered today. the obvious idea was that the unit is overheating causing the reset.

And while I still think that may be the issue - why is it only happening when i'm travelling over 90km/h. I thought it weird that there be this magical speed that the issue presents itself so I tested it numerous times today. Sure enough, I could replicate it - but this is only once the car has been driving for about an hour.

When I got off the F3 and back onto normal Sydney streets the issue disappeared. I had a play with the speed sensitive volume control just for a laugh and nothing happened. So I am still thinking its got to do with the unit overheating and resetting. It does this no matter what feature you use (nav, radio etc). The last time it happened I was using the nav - today just the radio.

Once it reset a few times, I hit the power button (leaving only the time displayed) but within a minute or two it'd still reset (because its only on standby not off) and it'd go through its cycle once again.

The other issue i've found is with the climate control in that when set to control both sides of the car with the drivers knob (not in dual mode), the passenger temp will change in the RNS510 but not the drivers. If you click it back and forth once it'll work fine - but almost 100% of the time it wont do it right the first time you hit the control.

Beginning to think i've got a dodgy RNS510. Either that or its possessed.

Just to confirm, the reset issue does not ever present itself in normal driving - only when travelling fast for extended periods (over 90km/h) - ie freeway driving.

Did it cut out around Wyong / Ourimbah?

    Read here & http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f112...red-36095.html too

What version maps are you using? V3 is supposed to fix it but I haven't been North since my maps were installed by my dealer at the last service.

Well it was mid way on the F3 (about an hour in from Newcastle both ways) to and from Sydney.

Sounds like the common issue - need to get V3 installed it seems.

    Hello all,

My RNS510 was working fine until Sunday when I turned it off and now it will not turn on again!
The unit is still getting power as the back lit buttons work and the screen has power but is grey only. Radio, satnav, RVC vision do not work. When I turn on ignition a brief, almost unnoticable noise comes out of the speakers. It does not sound healthy!

Has anyone else come across this before?

I have booked to service centre tomorrow but would like to go armed with some knowledge.

    Thanks!

Just to provide an update to my last post….

    RNS510 was replaced under warranty.

The chap said it was not a common problem so that is good...

Does anyone know if and how the RNS510 can be switched to a QWERTY keyboard.?
