Question to the wise. I have the factory fitted RNS510 and have copied via SD card my music collection. I converted it to mp3 format prior to doing this. The music plays however, each time I open a folder to play it, it states words to the effect "can't read file". It then proceeds to cycle through each song before it plays normally.
I can stop the car and resume playing from the same folder and this process does not occur. However, the same process occurs again when I go to a new folder. How can I fix this?
I apologise if this has been covered before.

Thanks mate. Whats the consensus on here, do people prefer mute or voice commands? Not sure i'll actually use the voice commands.
Quick google tells me the hdd in it is a 2.5" IDE automotive grade (ie handle -20deg to +80deg)... can be replaced with SSD which supposedly does improve performance of the whole unit which would be nice but can't be stuffed going through the hassle.
how to install SSD on RNS 510
As for copying from SD card, Yeah i've noticed if i turn it off while copying it will do about the next 150 tracks then stop, next time you put key in, it starts from where it left off.
Going to try a fast 32GB USB stick in MDI, maybe the best solution/easiest to manage.
I never use voice commands, but use the mute function on almost every trip.
I actually have different types of music on the HDD, SD card, and MDI so that I can change genres at the push of a button, and it remembers what song was playing, etc. It's just a shame the Mix function doesn't remember what songs it has already played, as I often hear the same songs over again, while never hearing others.
Does anyone have version D of RNS510? I am thinking of buying one later and installing it. I heard it operates quicker because of the new CPU and has a larger hard disk.
EDIT: Or should I be asking about version F?

What faster CPU? It operates faster because of the new firmware versions, they all have the same PowerPC 400MHz 750MIPS CPU.

I find the voice control on my RNS510 to be useless so want to switch the micophone button into a mute switch as I would find this more useful. My VW mechanic has access to VCDS. Can you advise what the code is and what menu he needs to be in to change the function in my car when I see him next?
