Anybody else find this? - or have a solution?

The only way I can work around this is to develop several playlists all shuffled so I get the songs in different orders.
I noticed this with the iTouch.. was going to ask the same question.. also I note it starts each song with the first bar then pauses then kicks in.. any idea what that is..?

I've not noticed the shuffle first 50 songs issue, but the slight "skip" at the beginning of some songs is a common fault with iPods/iPhones and the RCD/RNS units that was certainly improved in the most recent MDI firmware update (which also fixed the display sometimes not updating with the correct song title) but not iradicated completely.

Only seems to happen maybe 1 song in 50 or so for me now?

I only EVER listen to VBR MP3s (ripped with EAC, encoded with LAME) and I've never EVER heard the RNS510/MDI skip at the beginning via my USB stick.

I'm getting this "skip" as well. The beginning of the song will play for about 2 seconds.. Skip for about a second.. then continue to play. It doesn't bother me that much but I'd like to find a way to fix it .. It's happening on all songs. I'm using a 1st gen iPod touch with shuffle OFF. It's connected via factory MDI, not the cable out of the glove box.

Also, I had my RNS510 fitted by the dealer pre-delivery. I wasn't given a security code for it. I read somewhere that the unit will only work with my car alone and therefore doesn't need a code. Is that true? Or would I need to contact the dealer to retrieve it? I don't want to get into a situation where if I need to change my battery etc, the unit will decide to lock me out!

    Thanks guys.

Hi CC - have you tried updating the firmware for your MDI?

I think you only need the RNS510 code if you put it in a different car, but the dealer should really pass the code on to you, or at least let you know what it is for peace of mind. I've disconnected my battery a few times but never have been re-prompted for the code (only when I first installed it)

No I haven't, I'll give it a go on the weekend! I picked up the car from the dealer only on Monday. It was built April 2011, my thinking was that everything was up-to-date..... Is there a way I can check which firmware version I have?

Bluetooth audio is working. Can anyone assist? I've looked at the manual but it doesn't help.
Simply the Dealer fitted bluetooth if Genuine will only answer and hang up calls as well as audio stream.. Factory fitted Bluetooth allows phone book.. it works with HTC Blackberry I phone Nokia Etc Etc .. Please Guys make sure you know what system is fitted. I hope the selling dealer can explain this to you.. I hope you were not mislead.

Picked up my new MY11.5 Golf GTI yesterday with RNS510 and factory bluetooth.

Stupid question, how do i mute the radio/stereo? If i press the mic button on the steering wheel it activates voice commands... the Star button on the RNS510 does the same thing...

PS. Copying music to this thing is so slow, even when i tried HDD -> HDD....

You'll need to use VCDS to recode the function of the microphone button if you prefer muting/pausing to voice commands.

I think the RNS510 HDD is more designed for reliability (when driving over bumps, etc) than performance. It takes a while, but if you start the copy and then leave and lock the car it will continue hidden in the background (at least when copying from SD card). It might not finish, as it will eventually stop part way through to save the battery.
