Seems oddly similar (not same) as what I am experiencing. Before I go further into it. Manual or DSG?
Hi,
I recently changed oil & filter (with VW approved Castrol) and air filter.
The car seems to drive normally. I checked the oil level after a big drive yesterday and it is ok. I have changed oil on a number of cars before so I think I have done it correctly.
Anyway, just noticed that the instantaneous fuel consumption is a bit odd.
The first 10 seconds on acceleration, it shows very high fuel consumption eg. 49.9, 38.5, 33.3, 28 etc.
After 10 seconds, it seems to be working ok (around 4 - 9 range).
On deceleration (eg just before lights), I would take the pedal off and it would show 0L, then just before the car stops, it would jump up to 14, 10, 7 etc.. before settling back to 1 or 1.1 or 0.9.
In general the reading seems a bit more jumpy than normal but that's a "feeling" and I can't really verify it.
Overall the car drives fine.
Has someone experienced this before? A dirty sensor somewhere?
Or do they do some other task during an oil and filter change that I might have missed?
Appreciate any feedback.
Cheers.

The instantaneous read-out is not 100% accurate. It's just a rough calculation. It does not measure the actual fuel being used.
