My bora is currently insured at $2000 a year with NRMA (I'm a p-plater) but I'll be switching soon to AAMI because I got a quote for $1000 which is crazy cheap for a p-plate driver, albeit on as a secondary driver

If a car is manufactured in 2011, but has a 2012 compliance plate, is it considered a 2011 or 2012 car for insurance purposes?
Getting a quote for comprehensive insurance for a GTI on the NRMA, it just asks for YEAR. Strangely, if I put in 2011, the quote is $714 and for 2012 it's $666 (I would have thought it would be the other way around).
Interesting question. I don't think they care. Pick whichever one suits you best.
Remember if you insure it for a 2012 you'll be more likely to get a new-for-old replacement based on that date... Just a thought.
I think you will find it is the build year.
Don't try and put something in online, call and talk to someone. If you enter the wrong information, you will be out should you have to make a claim.
Put whatever is on your rego. My car built september 10 first registered jan 11, rego papers say its a 2011 car.
hey guys, I'm with GIO and i need to make a claim. They have hit me with an additional excess of $400 for a High performance vehicle. This is on top of the basic $650 excess....no mention of 'high performance vehicle' anywhere in my policy. My claim is not at fault but the skate boarder i hit ran off into the night so no way to make him pay.
I cant find anywhere that MK VI golf GTI is a high performance vehicle....
anyone know anything about this???
I was with AAMI, was paying $68 a month as I did their Skilled Drivers Course. I then changed to QBE as my car is a novated lease through work and QBE would pay out the entire lease amount if the car was written off whereas AAMI would only pay out the amount covered for the car being $34000 which would leave me with a big debt still. I think now its about $84 a month with QBE.
