As Corey mentioned, as long as the car is still deemed "road worthy" it will still be covered if the mods fall within you cover limit with RACV. Not sure about the other insurers.

This varies from insurer to insurer. Allianz, for example, will not insure you if you make any performance modifications whatsoever.

Personally, I would recommend that you check with your insurer before making any changes, and ensure they'll cover you. If not, go elsewhere. There would be nothing worse than a denied claim due to uninsured mods. Some insurers will charge a higher premium for the mods (including Shannons at time of writing); others - such as the NRMA in NSW - shouldn't charge you more, or even in some cases require the mods be listed, as long as they're all legal.

Here, through SGIO, I pay $422 inlcuding windscreen replacement (which is an extra $66), excess of $500. It is only market value on the car (2010 118Tsi) but seeing as it has new car replacement for 2 years I figure why put a fixed value on it.
To be honest I haven't read the PDS but with my previous car (insured with SGIO) the two times I got rear ended on the freeway the repairs were done within three weeks.
You've done very well. My car is similar vintage, yet a lesser model and I can't get a price anywhere near that despite being of low risk age, and (hopefully in their eyes) a good suburb.

I do think that being a female, over 30, has something to do with the low price Plus I don't owe anything on the car which is a question they always seem to ask..

Those are the exact same circumstances my car is in. Interestingly I see that at SGIO the 118 is cheaper to insure by a noticeable amount than the 90, and that with a higher insured amount (market value) to boot. Funny business the insurance game.

Or, you are older/have a different driving record and live in a safer suburb than other posters for insurance claims.

Or you are just amazing at haggling and the insurance companies worship the ground you walk on.

Whatever floats your boat the most.
