But to answer the original question posed at the top of the thread..I'd go either a 2nd hand BMW..or a new Subi Impreza had I not bought the GTI.
Prob a Mazda 3 or something, less power and lower price.
Just loved the GTI and had to buy it.

Love the mini, but no room in the boot and same problem I had with my Beetle (and two kids at different schools).... two doors.
Maybe the Mazda3, but SP25.... performance in the regular Mazda was a little lacking...

Actually I prefer it over the GTI but no one else in the family can drive manual (the rx-8 HAS to be manual), so the DSG box was a good compromise.
