New: 2010 Mini Cooper JCW
Used: Try and find a nice BMW 130i!!!
Probably nothing — I'd most likely still be driving a 20+ year old MX83R Cressida.
Still the best vehicle (of some 70-odd) I ever owned but — like me — it was just getting a bit old.
Those Cressidas are good old cars. Straight 6, rear drive, well built, comfy inside ..... I almost bought one in the mid 90s before I bought a 1983 VH V8 Commodore. Not my smartest car purchase. The only thing the Commodore did better than the Cressida was the sound coming from the exhaust.

Good choices !
The Mini is a go-kart with a rocket attached. I love the way is spins its front wheels on flat changes from 1st to second and gets all squirrelly at the same time. I almost ended up in someone's front yard testing one of those on a suburban road, a straight suburban road at that ! Loads of fun.
The 130i would be great too if every road was smooth hot mix. The short wheelbase of the 1 Series, combined with BMW's sports suspension and 18" run-flats are the devil's work.

The GTI is a compromise between what I want and the wife not driving manual. So if the mark vi wasn't around it'd be the Mark V GTI or R32.
Or I would have kept my 3 MPS and bought her a cheaper Golf.
Reading these JCW Mini comments makes me want to try one!
there were 3 cars i would be interested in.
civic, focus and 3.
test drove the civic, didnt like it. the ride was too harsh.
or if those didnt live to expectations, buy a dirt cheap falcon
There's nothing wrong with those turbo 6 Fairmonts (or GEs or whatever they are called now)! I think they are very good indeed. Hugely quick, great ZF box, good ride/handling, lots of fruit inside, reliable etc. As a second hand proposition for $45K it would be brilliant. As would a second hand Calais V.
