    Humid Interior?

    Hi All,

I've recently bought a new 90TSI. I owned it for three days before it went back to the dealer for three weeks to have the DSG replaced but aside from that (and perhaps the slight dash creek on rough roads) I love the car.

However, I have one gripe at the moment and that is that I have never needed to use air conditioning so much to see out the windscreen of a car. Every time I get in and start it, as soon as air blows out of the vents the windscreen goes white as if it's stuck on re-circ and not using fresh air and I need to keep the air-con on at all times.

    Does anyone else experience this?

    Cheers

That's definitely not normal and suggests there's moisture somewhere it shouldn't be.

I'd be either checking the heater core and its fluid connections or having some-one else do it.

Keep a careful eye on the engine coolant level, as well — any change may be a clue as to where the fogging's coming from.

Hmm, now you've got me worried, especially as Denlo had to remove the engine to replace DSG. Both the Golf and my wife's Tiguan were parked out the front at the same time this afternoon. Now my Golf has fog on windows and mirror inside, yet the Tiguan is clear. Coolant level is fine though.

There's only one reason for fog like that — water.

Probably some-one hasn't properly tightened a hose clamp when the car was re-assembled.

Take it back to Denlo as soon as you can.

Further thought: Check for damp in the front footwells in case somebody let the cooling system leak while removing the motor — but the amount of fog you're getting suggests a continuing leak. The cooling system might only go down slowly as it doesn't take much water to create a lot of fog.

Check that the recirc flap is not stuck in the recirc position and also that the water drain tube from the ac evaporator unit is not blocked.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I took it back to Denlo today and they need the car for a full day to assess, they agreed it did seem unusually humid as soon as they opened the door. The blocked drain from AC was also suggested as a possibility by them or perhaps an ill fitted windscreen permitting water to track in. I had made sure I could feel air being sucked in with the fan on hi to check that it wasn't stuck in recirc, all seems good.
