Slightly off topic, I didn't know you had the option to decide where the MDI to be fitted in. Was the MDI an optional extra - dealer fitted?

you don't have the option, but i understand it to be that if it's factory fitted it's in centre console, or dealer fitted is in the glovebox.

downside of centre console = you lose almost all the storage space in there
downside of the glovebox = you've wasted your money paying for the MDI cause it's a pain in the arse to get to and you'll never use it

i ordered what i understood to be factory fitted but clearly it wasn't.

    That's what I thought.

I guess it depends on how you use. I quite like mine being in the glovebox because I have a fully loaded ipod that I just leave in there. Which also means more storage space in the centre console.

But I can see how it can be a dumb idea fitting the MDI in the glovebox when you have an iPhone doubled as your music player.

Possibly they changed the MDI location in a recent MY revision. You could visit a dealer and check other cars with it to see where there's is.

In the Audio forum there's one member who can skip BT songs via the HU as well (vraptor) and a lot of other jealous users. We haven't worked out the exact reason why this is and how everyone else can gain the feature. Possibly it's a new version of the HU or bluetooth module.

There's new firmware available for the RNS510 (satnav) on [url=http://www.my-gti.com/category/in-car-entertainment/rcd-510my-gti.com[/url] but I've not seen any for the RCD510.

Oh forgot to mention that I have the RCD-510 and I'll do a test tonight to see if I can change tracks on the head unit/steering wheel while streaming via BT.

At least you guys have BT audio streaming.

I jumped at the chance to purchase and retrofit a BT kit thinking they weren't an updatable item.

Does anyone have a slightly older car with the RNS510 (say from 2010 or 2011) and bluetooth? Would be keen to know if you guys are able to change songs via touchscreen/steering wheel for stuff played via bluetooth, or whether it's in fact an update to the software rather than a difference between RCD and RNS.

frozze, keep thinking about getting a nano or something to leave plugged in to the glovebox, but i struggle to keep my music collection updated on my phone, let alone another device as well!
