If it's the latter, you may have purchased one of the many 'copies' which are circulating out there.
They are not copies, these are the new ones - my MK6 GTI came with one from the dealer when i picked it up a week ago.

They got rid of the TIM/TP buttons which are useless here at the moment, and have AM/FM buttons. The unit seems to work a bit faster scrolling through folders on the MDI, but perhaps it's the animated vertical transitions that display instead of displaying the word "processing.." when navigating folders. Seems quicker to me anyway.

As in 'new' they came out after the other ones, and could just be made for Australia. Not sure on the real differences other than those I've observed above.

Coolies. Thanks for the info G-rig. I guess that means we can give up any hope of getting the TIM/TP working in Australia

Just to confirm, the TIM/TP functionality still exists in the 'new' version RCD 510 (albeit useless) - just a little harder to get to with no dedicated TP hard button. The 'diamond' button is the TIM equivalent.

I tossed an RCD510 in my MKV yesterday, was very simple and a great upgrade for a few hundred bucks. It will be for sale in a few weeks when the RNS comes, I only bought it as a test mule.

This looks OEM and legit, what do you guys think? For 1200 for this and an extra 450 for what i assume is the fully intergrated bluetooth it looks like a good deal.

Can you swap standard golf (wagon) head unit with a RCD 510 ?

Hi all, just need some answers from people who may know better.

Can the stock standard base stereo head unit from a 2010 golf wagon be removed and replaced with an OEM RCD 510 from a Golf?

I know it will fit, but will everything on the back connect as per normal or will some modifications or wiring loom need to be changed?

Also, does this provide better audio output over the stock system?

I hope this all made sense as I'm new to these cars and systems.

    Cheers-

If the stock unit is the RCD310 then it will fit fine and all connections will be the same.

Why not upgrade to an RNS510 though from ebay (uk seller) for just over 1k
