I ordered my Golf R in March and my slack ass salesperson says he still does not have the VIN, i need by car by the first week of August. I am planning in on going Monday and speaking to the sales manager, as i have tried 4 times and get the same answer. If i dont get an answer in the next month, i am half in mind to cancel the order and pick one off the floor from melbourne or Sydney. Barlowworld in melbourne are hopeless.

Hey silver fox...seems I ordered mine similar time to you and my car was on the Toreador as well. I know it docked sunday the 8th and I have been in to see the dealer last weekend and all they keep saying is "anyday now"....did they give you the definite day of this thursday??? Which dealer did you use?...Mine from Paul Wakeling and they have not been the best with customer service so far. I also pointed out to them that a grey R in the showroom that was sold had a gutter scrape under the front spoiler and they basically ignored me. This long wait will be worth it but to me it seems unjustified.

Yes it is booked in for this Thursday morning pick up at 10am. They have sent me the email with how I need to pay under what conditions yada yada yada.. I ordered mine through Denlo at Parramatta, if it is any consolation service from dealers is a pipe dream, really it is really bad or in line with Bunnings. I would rate mine Bunnings
My sense of it is the dealers are in the dark most of the time , however I think this is through choice rather than circumstance.
As for their care factor about their showroom stock it is probably demo and before they sell it will have it cleaned up.
I work for a major financial institution and service delivery ( which covers much ) makes up 40% of my bonus and this is mapped against internal survey's and external institutions 4 times a year. I assure you I know a lot about customer service , measurements and behaviors and the car sales industry does not really consider this as a differentiator they believe it is product. So whilst you believe for the coin you are parting with that your treatment should be greater than it is your rep believes the proof is in the eating not in the baking
