Ships could stop in SA. They could easily berth at the Port.
I know the ship my car is on is stopping at Fremantle before it gets to Melbourne so it could've off loaded here too before going to Vic. I guess volume is the key issue.

I dont think it has to do anything with the delivery I mean if I have to pay a truck to dump my golf in front of my door or dump it in front of the SA VW dealer there shouldnt be really price difference that much. I agree with 'nau' about 5 to 7 k difference we are talking. I know because my sister has golf 5 and she couldnt get the price she asked in SA so she got it instantly in VIC. I think VW salesmen here are $$$ hungry. On the other hand lack of competition too. I think one of the dealers along the lines said to my sister "we have enough business here no to sell it at that price.." as majority of people dont use research before they buy. Well too bad that SA dealers lost 100K from me and my sister :)
Interesting. I have bought 3 GTI's (2 Golfs & a Polo) and price between Adelaide and interstate was not a big difference. The Mk5 I bought in Melbourne was purely because Adelaide could not provide the car with options in a timeframe suitable to my needs and I was willing to go to Melbourne to get it. Then again in 2005 there was not a lot of discounting going on and I rang just about every dealer (except in Perth) trying to source the car I wanted. When I bought the Polo in 2006 there was again no real difference in pricing and they even discounted slightly better - hence they got the deal.
I would have to say when there was one VW dealer in Adelaide there may have not been the need to offer very competitive pricing to everyone and therefore some people might not have had the bargaining power, but now there are 3 dealers and with me they all came in with competitive quotes. I was lucky that the dealer I had the relation with was the better price of the 3, but also I spent many months discussing with the dealer even before the Mark 6 was released to ensure I got what I wanted at a competitve price. I compared the SA prices to interstate dealers and what people were saying on the forums and was definitely happy with the end result.
maybe next time I will need to get your dealers name :) (hopefully not soon)
but I have another case where VICs price was 1.5k better for TSI golf some extras (not sure on a model) .. and that includes all the travel etc
I dont know if I would worry about 1.5k on ~40k purchase but still price difference works out to be around ~3k (that's excluding travel and accommodation)
but over all Im more then happy to write up all the procedures involved with VIC->SA transfer and I have to say it was easier thn expected :)
(some one from Solitaire is reading this and writing memo for a hit lol )
Is this normal?
I havent heard anything from my dealer besides when I call to ask him how we are tracking?
Car was taken from another boat to replace my damaged one and they said it would take 2 weeks to get over here by train from Brisvegas? I think I just hate the lack of communication.

QUICK CALL THE NAVY . . . . SOME BASTARD HAS STOLEN THE BOAT.
The Queen Sapphire is MIA . . . . .
Well , according to the tracking website it is . . . . how freakin annoying. I sort of wish I hadn't bothered to track it. Very frustrating.
It left Southampton with the GTI's aboard , and promtly turned around and headed back to Belgium to be "lost" in the English Channel. How does a boat not get tracked in the channel ? One of the busiest shipping channels in the world. Last tracked 5 May 2010.
AHHHHHHHH the wait . . . its killing me
Mine is on the Queen Sapphire as well...
What I have figured out is that it was an error in the system and the boat is proceeding as planned. If you click on the ship's details it states that the ship was due in Belgium on the 17/04 (this was the trip it made before it picked up our babies in Germany). All should be fine, I think it is just out of tracking range, it should show up round the 20/05 as it reaches Port Elizabeth.
On a side note, the Queen Sapphire is due to dock in Melbourne on the 08/06. However I will be overseas on a work trip from the 19/06 to the 03/07... I know there is no way I can pick my baby up before the 18/06 which means that I will have to pick it up after the 04/07... do you think they will hold it for me?
That would be me :) Specs are as per my sig.
Sure, whilst 1.5K isn't alot of difference, it's better than nothing. Plus, I was much happier with the service I received from the person I dealt with in Victoria and so decided to accept. Short trip to Melbourne & back is also a good excuse to get away for a few days and good opportunity to run the engine in.
