LS, How did you find out that your R was discharged at Port Kembla today?? Mine is on the same boat as you know....

For those waiting on a GTI (custom spec. ordered) - mine took 4.5 months from day of order to keys in had. I think the lead times are slowly improving.
Yeah... they won't get much better than that. Anything between 3 to 4 months for a car from Germany is excellent.
and waiting time for R still around 6 mths as i can expect:facepalm:
This thread is AWESOME!! just checked my VIN and the shipment came up straight away.
The ETA cannot get here fast enough (although, I may be one of the lucky few who by passed the 6-8month wait - hopefully everyone waiting for cars will get them sooner, rather than later)
Went to the dealership and was able to get look at the car today, needs a good detail and she'll be shining. Might even be ready to pick up Monday evening. Candy white with black 19" looks fantastic.
Hi Everyone,
I've just ordered my GolfR last week and want to know what to expect in the ensuing 9 months. The list of steps at the top of this thread was useful but I was wondering if anyone could give me an indication of what should happen between me and my dealer from signing and paying the order and receiving a VIN no, along with suggested timeframes? Any advice gratefully received.
Cheers
If the timeline is to be 9 months, you realistically won't receive any "real" update for about about 5 months. At that stage, you'll receive a confirmed build week and a VIN within a few weeks of each other. Once you have the VIN, about a month later, you'll be able to track the car on the shipping sites. You then have about two months of shipping and compliance and pre-delivery etc.
If the timeline is to be 6 months, then you won't have a real update for about 2 1/2 months etc. (that was my wait, I ordered on the day of release).
The best you could possibly hope for on a car to come from Germany is 4 months. But it doesn't sound like that'll happen with the R.
Don't bug your dealer for the next month, but then hit them up for a copy of the NADCON screens as per the 1st post. Then follow up the next month for new screenshots, and again a month later etc. There's no point stressing yourself by trying to get any more frequent updates than that. Once you've got the VIN, you don't need to talk to the dealer again until the car has landed. Takes ~3 weeks (+/- 1 week) for complaince and predelivery.
