I don't have issues creeping or reversing up my driveway. I do have a DSG tune though.
Try the new Mk7 Golf, I believe more refined
Having driven manual and automatic transmission for many years, rejected MK6 Golf Diesel with 6 speed in favour of 118TSI due to concern re abrupt surge of power at traffic lights. 118 was much smoother.
However, despite careful accelerator control, I often had problems making a smooth entrance into my garage.
This could result in the DSG even disengaging when trying to slowly enter over a short ramp at the entrance.
I also found reversing back up a hill very difficult. Either the car rolled forward, or else reversed back at an uncontrollable
rate of knots. Careful use of the handbrake required.
With present Passat, no hassle in ANY situation. VW finally got it right!

Train her by fitting a turbo and spring booster to the Rio... though come to think of it the Rio probably doesn't have an electronic throttle so there goes half the plan.
Do you really want to keep the 118TSI long term?
If it was me and I didn't want to drive the Kia, I'd sell both cars and get something that you're both happy with.
