How many manual GTI's out there

    Hi All

I'm a Polo GTI owner now looking at a Golf because of the Polo waiting list. I am able to get a DSG off the floor, but would prefer a manual. The sales guy said manuals are nearly impossible to get, but I have seen some debate about pros and cons so I guess they must be *reasonably* common. Apart from doing a dealer ring around in the morning, I was hoping someone may have a good idea how "rare" a manual Golf GTI really is ????????

(I have searched for a poll on specs but can't find anything)

A suggestion.... go to a Renault dealer and buy a RS250.

As a rule it seems VW dealers have no idea what f*cking stock they have or is coming in. So they will invariably make up a story to keep you hooked or make you order a car to spec and then you could wait between 2 months to years (going by all the stories on here)

Like most cars now, Golf's are sold with DSG more than manual - we are becoming lazy these days. Mind you, with the flappy paddles and the up/down slot for the lever, you can still pretend it's manual, you just dont use a clutch yourself.

I think it was in the 70's that the switch to auto started with the HQ holden/XA ford, and by the time Commodore/EA came about, more than 50% of these 'family' cars were sold as auto. By the 90's, auto was a 'delete' option for Holden and Ford here in the falcadores.

I have no choice but have DSG in my Golf, it's 'standard' for the Addidas pack.

Last stat I saw, over 80% of Golf's sold in Australia are DSG.
So they do exist, but you're just going to have to do the dealer ring around...

I have a 5 door Man in stock. Carbon steel with Bluetooth and 18" Detroits . My Stats are about 90% DSG these days.. I am a dealer who does not make up stories. GTI Golfs are on a fairly tight Rescriction level so most of the stock we have Availiable are already sold with pre orders This not just happening with GTI but a number Vehicles. So I have one in stock, one on order and one at dealer spec. These three are not sold. I would not rush out and grab a Renault as later down the Track, resale I believe might pose as a bit of a problem I am not talking Redbook values but real world Values. I don't want to get into a shooting match about the Renault Vehicle this was only my opinion based on my run ins with French vehicles being traded in here in this country. PM or call if I can be any further help in regards to Finding you a Golf GTI Manuel if that helps?

You deserve to sell every car you can get your hands on with service like that.

On topic, I've got a 3 pedal GTI and when I went to order it with the options and colour combination that I wanted the dealer was able to source one from existing stock provided I was willing to order it with the Double Charge Transmission . I really wanted a manual, so it was a special order for me.

+1 on the service from Phillip.

After my Polo Gti order, any contact with Phil was always up front and he'd tell me what information he was getting from VW - even if it was what I didn't want to hear about the delays.

When I'd had enough and started looking at other cars in stock, he and his staff quickly pointed out what they had in stock that met the specs I'd given.

Ok, I'm spending a lot more than I initially intended, but the service was fantastic so I don't mind.

The Golf I've ordered was stock he had, and after looking I grabbed SWMBO and took her to look at the car as well before we decided. After a 1/2hr look, and 10mins to closing time, I jokingly said we should take the demo GTI for a drive. 10 seconds later, Phillip had us in the car and on the way. Every other dealer I've ever dealt with in Canberra has always said 'come back tomorrow'.

So I've bought a Golf GTi now, and hopefully the paperwork will be sorted first thing Monday and I can pick it up that day.

I have a my11 3dr white manual coming in about 4 weeks. I've tested the polo gti and although nice I never felt like I was "driving" the car but rather just pushing the accelerator pedal. The connection u have with a manual will never be replicated with dsg and although quicker, speed isn't wat it's all about for me.
I'm happy and glad I bought a manual, and the short wait is fine for me as I got the colour and spec I wanted at a great price
