i plan on keeping my manual tsi for many yrs as me daily
90 TSI 1.4T
2 years only - dsg, manual or whatever makes no difference. I am a serial car swapper (now I can afford it) and prefer to sell the car with at least 12mths remaining warranty for the next punter. So only another 13mths to go with Candy !

I tend to hang onto cars for quite some time, either because I mod them beyond the point of common sense (Polo), because I can't get a decent trade-in when buying something new (Cayenne) or because there's not enough difference to justify moving up to a newer model of the same car (Mk V TDI).
My Mk V is getting onto 5 years old now, and I'm more than happy to keep it for another 5 at this point.
Quite the opposite - i really love money but I also really love driving around in something that is new, under warranty and wont leave me at the side of the road or out of pocket for a repair that could potentially pay for an upgrade. By the time I write the car off on tax the difference in swapping every two or three years is not a lot more than paying repair costs when a car is out of warranty.
Also my experience when I was young and broke was to drive cars into the ground - I had a Mazda 323 twin carb I drive for 325,000 km until the water came into the car through rust holes around the windscreen. Now I am older and in a better financial position I choose to change more often. Hell I don't drink, smoke, or gamble. I have no mortgage and I save 70% of what I earn religiously each month so having a new car is something I reckon I can afford just fine.
If it pleases Your Honour...

I trade up between 2-3 years always. Never had a car longer than that. In fact, traded up my GTI MK6 for a Scirocco R today!
Scirocco R - Candy White / DSG / Panoramic Roof / RNS510
Mods - HPA ECU & DSG Stage 2 / VWR Racing Intake / Akrapovic Slip-On Titanium Tips / Milltek DP / HPA Mounts / Superpro LCA / H&R Sport Springs / VMR V710 19x8.5 / Michelin PSS 255-35
i also like new things, and im not sure what cars u have owned, or u just must have terrible luck, but being stranded on the side of the road in a relatively new car is pretty unlikely (i can understand a 20 yo crapper, or a holden). also, not sure what type of monstrous repair bills u have faced where it can substitute for an upgrade of a car, the biggest bill ive seen is when my brother had to fix his clutch in his b5 rs4, $3k (plus servicing).
i need to get a better accountant who can tell me how swapping cars every 2-3 years is worth the repair costs of a few hundred dollars. cos i cant see it. surely u lose a little bit.
