This is why I have bought extended warranty for the Jetta! Mechatronic unit being replaced Wednesday under manufacture warranty before it runs out in 4 weeks.

thats why i bought a manual. actually, i bought a manual because i think its a better drive, but the dsg issue also rated somewhere into the buying decision

Yes, extended warranty a good call. Evidently VW Camberwell "give" you a free 4th year warranty if the car is serviced there. In any event I suspect I'll upgrade at the end of the 3 years to the M7 GTI (or R if I'm ready to lash out )- I'm also getting a dsg so probably safer!

Fair enough. I'll probably keep my GTD for at least 10 yrs I reckon.

By then, DSG boxes are probably so common and parts plentiful so that even back yard operators can fix it. I ain't worried... I will probably keep mine 10 yrs and be used as my shopping trolley by then

Our Mk5 GTI is 5 1/2 years old and I'm starting to get an itch to replace it.

Options include Scirocco R, MINI JCW hatch or hang on to it until the Mk7 GTI.

The latter option suits our budget a bit better as we are mid-way through wrecking our house and making it better again, haha.

I'm a serial car swapper so I'll only keep mine for another 12 months or so before looking at what else to get. Alternatively we'll sell the wifes Polo and she can have my GTI while I look elsewhere
I'm the boss at home so I'll do what I want, as long as I check with the wife first.
