I would budget based on the r32 price otherwise wait and see. Won't be any cheaper IMO as we get reemed in AUS.

There is a Golf R thread already where we've discussed the pro's and con's of waiting and also differences between the models.

    Obviously its full of speculation

One member stated that he's got good inside knowledge of the RRP being about $67k!.. now that sounds high to me but we will have to see.

one other thing we dont know just yet is what the basic R spec will be? It used to include leather and xenons. It would throw the cat amongst the pigeons if VWA were to remove them from the standard car and add those to the options list.

I would expect them to be standard and the vehicle to be just shy of $60k RRP + ORC.

    In what ways?

Can you provide reasons why the Mark V objectively is better overall than the model that replaced it?

lol Dubya. He was just sick of all the pro-MK6 talk and wanted someone to say some pro-MKV things. Asking for other peoples opinions, not actually saying himself that the MKV is better!

How does MkVI GTI compare with MkV? It doesn't, the MkV is much nicer/better.

I was proving a point that people with a MK5 will say that's better, likewise people who are ordering of have a MK6.

MK6: No doubt the chassis could be better and stiffer, XDS could be good or bad in the sense that the elect throttle may take away some control from the 6MT, and the rear end still hasn't grown on me and prefer the MK5. Also think that the plastic sideskirts could have been a lot nicer but look like they are 'tacked' on.

Just hard to understand if it really is better quality if they are made cheaper than the MK5. Mk5 still has a lot of character and found the MK6 interior nice but feels slightly more cramped as the window/mirror controls make the door cards thicker (if you know what i mean).

I think that this point has had a lot of confusion in the public. VW never said that they were "making the cars cheaper". They said that they needed to make them quicker to build as their profit margin on the car is too low because they take so much longer than an average car to put together.

So it's not like the parts or materials are necessarily cheaper on the MK6.

Also of note, VW did use cheaper materials in later MKV's to try and help with these cost issues. As some forum members here have noted, the cloth trim seats in later MKV's were thinner and wore much quicker than the early ones. One member wore through his seat in only 40,000km....
