My wife and I are in the market for a new Golf (to replace my MKIV) We have settled on a 90TSI Manual but before handing over our hard earned dollars, we need to take one for a test drive.

There in lies the problem.....it appears that no dealer within cooee of here has one....of any colour...of any spec...to test drive.

    Are they so rare?

My wife rang a dealer this morning (before we drove 100km to their site) to enquire if they had a 90TSI manual that we could drive and was told that we could drive a TDI DSG........."as they had the same interior"

My wife quickly pointed out that the manual obviously had a different interior as they had to make provision for a 3rd pedal!!!!! (such a smart ass sometimes)

I am at a loss as how the salesman could think that a test drive in a TDI DSG would be the same experience as driving a TSI Manual.

The first to give me a test drive in a 90TSI Manual gets the sale !!!!!!
I had to settle down by driving a 90TSI manual before I got my 118TSI DSG!
The dealer had no car as well and I was told that about 40 people had booked the car without doing a test drive! So I was bit more lucky to get a 90TSI Manual to do a test run!

The brochure and specification sheet is your friend.

The screen that you see is the RCD510, which is standard on the GTI. Not to be confused with the the RNS510, which is the sat nav. The easiest way to tell is the RCD510 has 3 buttons down each side of the screen, while the RNS510 has 4 buttons.

oh thanks for that information, i went to the dealer to check it out myself yesterday and they told me the same thing but thanks anyway.

The touch screen can be confusing, as it looks just like a sat nav.

When is a contract not a contract???

When it is between you and the VW Dealer....

My wife and I went to the dealer (who at this time will remain nameless) to test drive a 90TSI Manual.

Took the test drive and was VERY impressed with the car.

Sat down with the salesman to discuss the deal. I had my trade-in valued and was a little taken aback by the value...almost nothing.... for what the valuer described as "a glamour"

We worked out the change over figures etc and looked at the availability of the car we wanted...90TSI Manual...United Grey + comfort pack.....nothing unusual.

"Nothing in the country" he said..."could be a couple of months away"...fair enough I thought.

Then came the crunch..."don't expect us to hold the valuation of your trade-in"......."we all know the valuation will drop by the time your car arrives"

I understood that as long as the car was in the same condition as when valued...the deal stood....apparently not.

It would appear that because VWA can't supply cars, buyers are at the mercy of the dealer when it comes to trade-in values on the day of delivery. In my case the $4000 I was offered as a trade-in could efffectively become $1000 on the day of delivery and because the contract has been signed and deposits paid....I'm stuck with finding the extra.

For everyone who has cars on order with months of lead time, please check with your dealers to make sure that any valuation on your trade-ins will stand or you may find yourself out of pocket when your car eventually arrives.

    Needless to say...we walked.....

Thats not unusual. Validations for Mitsubishi are 30 days. For that reason I haven't been looking to trade because of this risk. Plus you almost always get more in a private sale.

This is standard with all contracts not just Volkswagen dealers.

Unless you have an arrangement with the dealer or trade early the value can drop at time of trade.

The cars are made in Germany and there are thousands of variations of the Golf available. Would you expect Volkswagen to keep in stock tens of thousands of Golfs so you can get a faster delivery?

Your loss, unless you go to a car that has only 8 variations like the Mazda 3 and is made in Japan you will either have to be more flexible with the car you want (dsg would be most likely quicker to obtain or even the 118TSI) or wait it out.
