My RNS displays the time when the radio is off (and I installed it myself and configured nothing), I can't speak to the RCD, but let's see if someone else can chime in.
Hi All,
I've seen a few YouTube videos where people are able to display the time when the MDI (I believe I have RCD510) is turned off. I swear when I first test drove my Golf GTI (second hand), the time was displayed when I switched off the radio.
When I finally got the car home, I decided to factory reset everything as the Bluetooth and settings were configured for the previous owner.
I don't have the sat nav MDI, so I'm not sure if I just imagined this, or perhaps I saw the time displayed at Barloworld when I was first looking at the GTI's.
If anyone could provide any assistance that would be awesome.
Thanks.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you. | Refer a Friend - AussieBroadband $50 Credit
Yeh I've gone through the manual and it does mention to configure the time after the Radio has been configured. I noticed that my setup menu options had changed as well after this.
I am thinking of installing the RNS, but I think the taillights might take higher priority. But definitely a project worth considering.
While taillights might be nice and all... you don't see them as often as you will the stuff you see while in the drivers seat.
I'm a advocate of improving the things you touch and interact with before purely visual stuff (unless of course it's so cheap and easy it's something you can do in between saving for the bigger mods )
That said, LED tail lights are awesome

Any one able to help out with this??
I had another look at the manual and it did mention that the time display will only work on some MDI's. I had another look on YouTube and they do not have the Nav version and look as if they have the RCD510.
It's not the end of the world, but it's frustrating to know whether I imagined having the time display or if it does work.

Yep agree with your comment. Hence I'm starting on the interior lighting. Next will probably be the Bluefin tune as that is more of a feel thing opposed to a visual or touch.

No time on my R or GTI - both have the RCD510 head unit. The only spot where i can display time is on the MFD (top corner).
I believe it only works on the RNS510 unit.
Thanks for testing it out for me.
If you have time, check out youtube and search Golf GTI MK6 Stage 1, there are guys that are recording from the inside the vehicle and they have the MDI turned off and the time is displayed. They have the 3 buttons on each side, which indicates to me that it is not the RNS unit, but perhaps the US models are different?
Anyways, I think it seems like I must have imagined it.
Thanks guys for the help.
US stereo models are different. So dont worry about those.
I've tried previously to get the time to display on my head unit, but have been unsuccessful. I still think it would be nice to have, but have given up trying. It either can't be done or it's too hard.
Yeh it would have been a nice feature, since as you said the only time display is in the MFD.
It's annoying for passengers because my missus is always asking me what the time is :\
I will endeavour to find a solution, but it ain't looking good.
