Hi,
I've got a TSI comfortline DSG 7 gear auto car, and I just read that VW is recalling some 25000 vehicles due to safety concerns regarding the gearbox.
I'm sorry if my question seems very general, but what are some typical signs that I should get my car's gearbox checked?
Sometimes when my car is at a stop on an incline, sometimes it will make jerking sounds. Also occasionally, when I slow down or stop, it will make screeching sounds (not from the tyres, but maybe suspension?). Is that related to my gearbox?
Thanks heaps
If your car was built between the dates quoted in the recall (June 2008 - September 2011), then VW should contact you within the next month or so to bring your car in, and if not, you should contact your dealer. It doesn't matter whether your DSG is exhibiting symptoms or not, the recall still applies, and parts will still be replaced.
See this post for a quick rundown of the common issues with the DQ200 DSG.

When I stop my car on an incline and I use both hand & parking brakes, it makes that sound. Occasionally, when I press down on the foot brake only on an incline, it sometimes also makes that sound
Thanks mate, I will give them a ring, and I will check out the link.
If you set the hand/parking brake and take your foot off the brakewith the DSG in any position other than P or N, then the DSG clutch for 1st gear (or reverse) will try and engage. If you have the DSG in S, D, R, or manual and you come to a stop, the foot brake must be applied and held to cause the clutches to disengage. As soon as the foot brake is released, the appropriate clutch will start engaging. If you have it in this mode for too long, you will wear out/overheat the clutches.
