Help needed with steering wheel swap. tsi to gti

Hey guys, just needing some help/advice on a steering wheel swap.

As many of you know i have a 77tsi with a non-multifunction wheel and i just bought a gti one.

I have been told the airbag/front cover fits in so thats a positive. Just wondering if any of you know if i need to buy a new harness to get the MF buttons and paddles to work?

And also, where in melbourne is a good place to go get it installed?

    Cheers,

    Deshan

Suggest having a look at this thread: Flappy paddles steering wheel in Tiguan.

The same steering wheel is used in the Tiguan and quite a few of us have changed out for flappy paddle versions.

Though can't tell you what harness/SW control module you will have in a Golf 77tsi and whether this will work with a MFSW.

    Good luck though!

    Wiring should be the same.

Pretty sure you'll need to upgrade the Steering Wheel Electronics control module, particularly if you don't have cruise control.

I have the stock standard wheel, no MF buttons, no paddle shifts, etc.

what does the control module look like? know where i can get the part numbers?

Run a VCDS scan and compare against someone with a MFSW installed.

This will tell you if you have the right steering wheel control module needed to support the upgraded wheel.

^^^this is the best advice. Safest thing to do would be to find out EXACTLY what you have installed so no guess work.

Also this site can provide some background knowledge:

Thanks guys, but I got confirmation that the buttons will never work as my Golf is made after Ocotber 2012. So it has a different control module.

The only way around it is to change the whole cars wiring loom, which is not a worthwhile task.

So I just installed it for looks, as it looks better than the stock wheel. Also matches my GTI interior.
