    RNS 510 Voice Activation

Hi all, I'm having trouble with a couple of things since having voice activation installed. When I go into Navigation, the lady tells me that Address entry by voice is not supported? why is this?

ALso when they installed the microphone he updated my software to 2660, does anyone see any need for me to upgrade to 2720? I also noticed since the upgrade, whilst the picture for the RVC is bigger, the quality has become terrible.

I'm sure theres more, suppose I'll remember later.

    Thanks,
    Stoney!

Address entry by voice isn't supported in Australia (yet). It's only supported in some countries in Europe and it has something to do with the maps they are supplied over there having more information (ie Telstra/Sensis screws us again with their poor quality data).

Do you know if theirs a Map upgrade happening soon Mav?

Also is it worth installing 2720 over 2700? I just couldn't really spot anything difference, where as 2700 over 2660 i read is quicker and more stable...

    Cheers,
    Stoney!

It was due out towards the end of last year so who knows when it's arriving. The parts department had notification about it but no stock still.

2740 will be available in the next few weeks.

What is the cost of updated maps now though? Is it still ridiculous (ie. $500 or something), or is it now at something reasonable (<$100) ?

I'd be shat off if it was more than a couple of hundred dollars. Major arterial roads that had been completed for at least 12 months before delivery of my car are still "proposed routes" on my map. I'm not thrilled about receiving such obsolete data, but would be happy with a fair upgrade price. And by fair I mean free.

There was a thread going on in the AV section of the forum where some people were being quoted $1200 for map upgrades!!!

Firmware upgrades are for free however.

There was also talk of people not receiving the GPS Map data disc when picking up their cars optioned on with GPS. Or if they got it optioned on at a later date, they were still not provided with the disc. Which is illegal.

Some dealers from what I remember were also offering to upgrade their customers to the latest maps free of charge, however they would still not give them a copy of the disc.

But the $1200 map upgrade really put me off when I ordered my GTI. If I hear news of them dropping the price I may get it optioned on at a later date.

Ive also heard news (as said above) that new maps are coming out soon. No point optioning on a GPS unit now when new maps are just around the corner.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'here'?
The car should come with a map dvd. You or the dealer puts it in the RNS-510 and then you'll get prompted to install them onto the hard drive and it copies all the data across.

    Same for updated maps.
