Hi All... after some info/advice. I'm toying with the idea of installing replica or OEM headlights - basically these - Volkswagen Golf VI 2.0T Lighting Headlights ES#2190098 European Golf R Black-Out Headlight Housing Set - 5K19987534D - so it completes my black and white theme.

I don't necessarily want Xenons as that creates a bunch of issues - install and legal. My questions are:

    1. Can I just swap the current halogens to these? Therefore running the halogen globes. If so, what happens to the DRL bulb? And, would I lose light output (vs the current halogen lights) if using these OEM style projector lights?
    2. Would the levelling feature still work? I'm talking about the one your can adjust via a the light switch area? Am I correct in assuming if I installed HIDs then I would need the auto levelling motor installed?
    3. My car has headlight washers, so that is not an issue??

Hope my questions make sense! Any help is appreciated.

Your car won't have headlight washers from the factory unless you have factory bi-xenon headlights. The tabs in the bumper bar are there on all GTIs, but are just covers for halogen-equipped cars.

Lol... I had no idea... just assumed they were washers! What a jib.

If I just run halogens through the new lights would I still need washers?

ADRs only require washers for xenon-equipped cars, so no. But if you read through this thread you'll realise there is a fair bit of work (and expense) involved in doing this conversion - even using a Chinese replica housing with projectors and halogens.

I can't say for certain, but I don't imagine a H7 bulb would fit into a seat base designed for a D1S bulb without some sort of modification.

Even assuming you've somehow managed to make it fit, whether or not you get a useable or appropriate headlamp beam will depend on how the optics of the projector and the bulb line up, so it's almost a matter of luck.

You are not required to install washers (which your car doesn't have) or auto-levellers for a H7 bulb, as it only has a nominal output of 1500 lumen.

Strictly speaking, the regulations state that washers and auto-levellers are required for any headlamp with an output exceeding 2000 lumen.

It makes no mention of bulb type in regards to that rule, so it would apply to halogen, gas-discharge or LED.

    HID Install Mk6 Golf

    Hello,

Just purchased an HID kit for my Mk6 Golf, just wondering if anybody has done this before, knows how to do it well and is able to help me install the kit.
I'm from south east suburbs of Melbourne but willing to travel and happy to pay you for your time and effort.

PM me for my contact details, the kit should arrive on Friday but I am happy to wait for someone to be free to help me out.

    Cheers
