Wear out your brakes while making the engine work harder, excessive heat build up leading to a fire? Short distances like you have described ought not a problem, have done it myself on a couple of times in my past (not in the current car though)
Have you ever done this while driving? I have a couple of times but only ever over short distances. ie 5 - 10m. Would this cause any major problems?

Yeah, I've never gone down the street with it on. Did it today when I parked but needed to correct it and moved forward and realised it was on. Only moved maybe a metre.

If you travel further than about 200 meters? an alarm will sound to remind you the brake is on anyway.
Over the small distance you have mentioned there would be no harm. If you drove around for a considerable amount of time then you would cook your brakes due to the heat/friction and possibly damage other parts of the vehicle.
My friends fiance drove her car about 10km with the handbrake on (and tyres skidding mind you) a few months ago. How on earth she couldnt feel the engine struggling / hear or smell the tyres smoking / see the light on the dash etc etc i dont know. But that drive resulted in 2x new tyres for her and a lesson in common sense.
And a step brother (pains me to admit that) borrowed my dads car years ago now to pick a friend up from the airport. His car was a ****b*x (as he has no inteest in cars whatsoever) hence the need to borrow my dads car for the trip. He drove the whole way from Sydney airport back to Newcastle with the handbrake on, then proceeded to tell my dad about the poor fuel consumption the car had over the trip. What an idiot. That exercise resulted in the entire rear brakes cooking themselves and needing replacement
