No Need to wait for the GTD either, just go take a 2nd had GT TDI for a spin if you can find one on a forecourt somewhere ithas nearly identical performance specs although its no longer a PD engine so the GTD will be a bit more refined.
There is once you retune the GTI, 402Nm pulls hardt anyway but not everyone is into modding. Torque is good but you still need kW too.

Lets not get this started into another tuning debate. I have owned both cars (this year)and am merely adding my 2c from MY experience of unmodded like vs like, which appears to be have been what the original question was.

That's fair enough but consideration should be given to what they want out of the car and if they are likely to do any mods would be better off getting the GTI.

Also depends how many km they do and how important economy is, not that the GTI is bad. The question is a bit vague and don't know if they like they prefer the sound of a turbo or that of a tractor.

I'm pretty sure i gave an unbiased first hand experience answer to what was asked re performance and features having owned both.

Does anyone know how the GTD compares to the GTI, in performance, features etc?
