You just keep on believing that!

I never said the gti was quiet but it sounds nice, a diesel does not.

I don't know any car that sounds nice at idle except maybe a V10 R8... The mk6 diesels sound much less truck like then their predecessor, BMW diesels on the other hand are very tractor like!

Just leave it mate. Some people will never get it. Our V6TDI Touareg has a nice engine sound, I can hardly hear it, when my daughter arrives, the car is in the driveway and I seat less than 2 metres from the front of the Touareg seperated from it only by the glass window. The car is quiter than the petrol cars the neighbours have.

You cannot hear the diesel from the cabin motoring along, so who care what it sounds like from the outside at idle? My GTD at this stage does not rattle, sounds fine. But if you are concerned about what your friends think when they are on the outside looking in...then it could be an issue. Not my concern, fcuk everyone else, I only care about what I think.

I had a loan petrol (something) while my GTD was having some warranty work performed - at idle, I had to check the tacho to determine if the engine was still running. No problems knowing that in the diesel.

Having said that, I'm not concerned by the engine noise, and I like the growl under acceleration, and the torque. If somebody else doesn't like diesels, that's fine by me. As they say, variety is the spice of life.

If you want to hear a diesel engine sounding like a truck, go find an old 6 cylinder diesel Land Cruiser. The GTD (and many other modern diesels) does not.

I've had my GTD now for over 12 months and love it to bits.

You do get a bit of engine noise while stopped, but once moving no noise at all.

I am a bit disppointed of the tyre noise when travelling over coarse roads.

    1. if you're worried about what a car sounds like whilst you're standing outside it, looking at it, listening to it..... well i'd like to know just how much importance/ time you dedicate to standing outside your car whilst idling, instead of actually driving it? no offence to the scene kids, but isnt it sorta like parking your car in a parking lot, and....... standing there, and.... looking at it? but when it comes time to drive the thing, it's so low that you have to drive as slowly as possible everywhere, but thank god it looks good when you're............ parked, standing outside it, and looking at it

    2. come to the next first sunday of the month cruise, it's in the get together/ meets section. you just might see a few diesels holding their own.

Ok time to refloat this thread!
To all the current Mk6 GTD owners.... who is still pleased with their GTD? Any long term issues and how is the DSG holding up?

And does anyone need (due to unforseen circumstances, not because it had been abused) to sell their good used GTD? What do owners think theirs are worth to sell today given their added options and kilometers and condition?

Yes I am interested in a used GTD. Cheers Al
