    GTI Scuff Plates

So I'm browsing eBay for VW stuff and I came across some scuff plates for the GTI.

Wasn't sure how good they would be but for about $45 landed, it worth a shot. Took about 2 weeks from Hong Kong.

The backing tape was average so I re-applied my own tape. The fronts look good and fit well.

The rear ones, not so good although I think they are still acceptable. There's a tiny curve in the existing trimwork and these are dead straight.

All in all, easy peasy for a coupla dollars.

They look alright! The MKV GTI actually had GTI Scuff plates which actually extended out onto the door sill. This was one of the things taken off the specs list in the move to the MK6.

I was really surprised when I test drove the GTI that they didn't have any and now knowing that the MKV had 'em, it's a shame.

I'll see how these hold up

They actually look pretty good. Even the rears which you said don't fit as well look pretty good from the photo.

Let us know how they go, I may have a look into some myself.

The OEM ones actually protect the door sill, don't they? This is what I'd want to protect, not the plastic trim. However, I was quoted $268 for the 4 door plates, plus $238 for the boot lip scuff plate. Over $500 extra to fit the lot. Expensive stuff.

Maverick's site has a Mk6 parts pricelist here, that shows:

Door Sill Protective Strip, 5 Door, Stainless Steel: $242.50.
Boot Sill Protective Plate, Stainless Steel look: $215.55

That's $47.95 your dealer was going to charge for fitting I guess... surely it just involves 5 minutes and some double-sided tape?

I think they might screw them in. Even still - $500 for installation?? I'd like to know exactly how they justify that. Maybe some rustproofing of the drill holes? Do you think I'm being generous?

I just saw these scuff plates on eBay for about 50 bucks landed. It's claimed to be made of stainless steel is that correct xblode? Does the door close fine with these stripes on? I'm thinking whether these are of acceptable quality and presentation as I would like to have scuff plates on my upcoming GTI. Silly VW not offering GTI scuff plates even as an option!
